Let’s do this! Let’s change the world! In this role, you will support Operations and build leadership capabilities. Operations is one of three core functions at Amgen with a mission to manufacture and deliver safe and effective medicine to patients around the world.
You will support Amgen’s overall effort to drive environmental sustainability best practices into our capital project delivery process and Amgen’s latest Environmental Sustainability program, ES2027.
For capital projects, you will ensure sustainability best practices are incorporated into scope from conceptual design through project execution and close-out. You will ensure project delivery in accordance with Global Engineering’s Standards, Procedures, and Guidelines.
The ES2027 program requires significant reduction in energy and water use as well as waste disposal. Successful execution of our ES2027 program is an enterprise-wide aspiration which includes participation from all Amgen sites and functions. This effort involves working with Amgen teams globally to find opportunities, develop feasibility assessments, and initiate projects to allow Amgen to realize our most aggressive sustainability aspiration.
Key responsibilities include:
Work with internal and external partners to identify energy and water conservation opportunities, develop conceptual scope and funding estimates, provide sustainability impact assessments, and monitor project execution after the defined initiative is transferred to a project execution team.
Manage programmatic improvements (with specific focus on capital project delivery refinement). Support business case development to justify the incorporation appropriate sustainability scope.
Advance and improve Amgen’s most aggressive environmental sustainability program, ES2027. The plan requires cultural change within Amgen; change facilitation and improvement are key components of this initiative.
Engage with functions across Amgen, provide support to executive and external communication, engage with external suppliers, and participate in Amgen’s Engineering Project Delivery program.

Basic Qualifications:
Doctorate degree OR
Master’s degree and 2 years of engineering experience OR
Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of engineering experience OR
Associate’s degree and 8 years of engineering experience OR
High school diploma / GED and 10 years of engineering experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Technical depth and strong collaboration skills in a diverse culture.
Passion and commitment to environmental sustainability projects and outcomes.
Experience performing environmental sustainability impact assessments (carbon equivalent, water consumption, and waste generation impact) and experience with International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol (IPMVP) standard or Certified Measurement and Verification Professional certification.
Experience and / or knowledge of industrial, laboratory, and relevant manufacturing environments and systems including but not limited to biotechnology manufacturing operations, boilers, chilled water systems, refrigeration, compressed air, process heating / cooling, motors, pumps, HVAC, and lighting.
Strong analytical / quantitative skills with an ability to pragmatically apply scientific / engineering first principles.
Experience working on LEED projects or LEED certification.
Professional Engineer license or completion of EIT with intention to pursue a PE license.
Strong written and oral communication skills, relationship building, and leadership skills.
Self-starter with the ability to concurrently manage several projects or assignments.
