WHAT WILL YOU DO

The Senior Specialist, Supplier Quality will work closely with the Senior Manager, Contract Manufacturing Quality & Food Safety to execute the review and approval of raw materials, including ingredients and packaging, and their suppliers both internally and with Orgain's contract manufacturing partners.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Review and assess supplier certifications and audit reports to ensure GFSI and/or cGMP compliance.

Review and assess Supplier Quality documentation to ensure minimum food safety and quality criteria are met and maintained.

Review and assess raw material documentation for both ingredients and packaging components, including, but not limited to, specification sheets, ingredient certifications, product declaration statements, etc.

Review and assess raw material ingredient compliance to Orgain's internal guardrails for ingredient quality and food safety.

Collaborate with suppliers to establish meaningful raw material specifications compliant with Orgain requirements, industry standards, and government regulations.

Conduct detailed material food safety risk assessments to identify hazard(s) to Orgain.

Perform supplier onsite visits and audits as needed to meet business needs.

Ensure all raw material documentation is kept up-to-date and current, including regular review of document age and validity dates.

Maintain a supplier scorecard to quantify supplier qualification status.

Maintain the document repository through Orgain's document management system, TraceGains.

Troubleshoot supplier issues regarding specifications, Certificates of Analyses, and functionality with the supplier, Orgain R&D, and Operations.

Investigate and follow up on out of specifications, root cause investigations, and corrective/preventive actions with suppliers.

Work with material suppliers to obtain shelf-life extensions on aging and/or expired materials or otherwise assist in determining appropriate disposition of expired raw materials.

Work with Orgain Contract Manufacturers to get raw materials qualified for use at their manufacturing sites.

Other duties and responsibilities as required.

Set individual goals for improving and expanding on everyday job functions, as well as on the greater social and environmental aspects of your work. We expect that you remain accountable to these goals and report your progress in performance reviews.

Adhere to Orgain's environmental policies, including our environmental purchasing and recycling policies. 

Be an active member in enhancing Orgain's social and environmental impact. Help us continue to evolve our commitment to the planet and the people we serve.

Requirements

EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

BS degree in a relevant scientific discipline (Food Science, Food Technology ideal) or 3-5 years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

3+ years of experience in the food & beverage manufacturing industry working with supplier management, auditing, and FSMA compliance.

Strong background in Supplier Quality including, but not limited to, raw materials/ingredients, food safety, food processing, FSMA, HACCP, risk assessment, and raw material specification development.

Experience in assessing risks related to kill steps in pathogen lethality studies.

Experience in investigating quality issues, performing root cause analyses, and CAPAs.

Advanced understanding of food certification programs.

Advanced experience in reviewing and assessing technical documentation related to ingredients and suppliers.

PCQI, FSMA, HACCP, and/or SQF Practitioner certification and/or training preferred.

Ability to effectively present information to all levels of management and suppliers.

Ability to drive and influence complex decision-making with various stakeholder groups and build consensus.

2+ years of relevant experience working in CPG environment preferred.

Strong organizational skills, detail-orientation, and commitment.

Self-directed with a demonstrated sense of accountability.

Ability to adapt to the changing needs of a dynamic growth-oriented business.


WORKING CONDITIONS

Position located in Irvine, CA and requires 3 days a week minimum in office subject to change per business needs.

May include prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

Additional tasks and responsibilities may be assigned to the associate from time to time; the scope of the job may change as necessitated by business demands. This job description does not constitute a contract of employment and the company may exercise its employment-at-will rights at any time.


SALARY RANGE: $70,000 to $80,000 per year

Final salary is commensurate upon a variety of factors, including work location, experience, skills, field of responsibility, and education credentials of the associate.
