Job Summary
The Senior Director, Sourcing will develop and implement strategic sourcing practices. You will identify vendors able to provide favorable Supply Chain relationships with a focus on cost and on-time delivery. In addition, you will manage ongoing relationships with key vendors to improve processes or pricing structure. Your goal is to improve profit margin and delivery in line with the needs of the company, communicating progress and aligning leadership on initiatives as they are pursued.
The ideal candidate will possess significant experience in transforming a Sourcing organization, leading Sourcing initiatives but also product knowledge in the work truck/snow and ice equipment markets and could play a role in identifying new product opportunities from our supply base as those relationships are managed. They would also have specialized knowledge in Manufacturing Engineering to facilitate understanding the cost drivers of parts based on manufacturing processes and materials. The ideal candidate will leverage this expertise to align with other leaders to relentlessly pursue opportunities to optimize production processes, assess manufacturing methods, and select materials strategically.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of global market trends and conditions for commodities critical to the business, making recommendations to leadership about paths to implementation for cost-saving strategies.
- Provide input on targets for sourcing opportunities, taking into account the global trade environment.
- Lead and mentor Sourcing commodity managers, providing guidance about effective negotiation tactics, vendor and spend analysis, and communication of recommendations.
- Be an active participant in managing commodities including issuing quotations. This role includes both leadership and the need to participate independently at all levels.
- Identify vendors and establish strategic relationships consistent with enterprise strategies and applicable operating plans and objectives.
- Negotiate pricing, lot size, lead-time, and other business terms for a favorable outcome to Buyers.
- Spearhead target costing initiatives, leveraging detailed cost models to identify opportunities for savings while upholding the high-quality standards of our products.
- Assist in resolving supplier performance issues, including quality, on-time delivery, capability, and capacity concerns.
- Communicate open and pending initiatives for progress tracking and status updates.
- Track savings opportunities for regular report-outs to management.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams during the launch of new products to identify suitable sources and on
- an ongoing basis to facilitate design changes.
- Facilitate vendor transitions, coordinating internally with Engineering, Product Management, Purchasing,
- Finance, and Compliance as necessary.
- Other Assigned duties and responsibilities as related to the position.
Qualifications, Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field, with demonstrated expertise in understanding manufacturing processes, materials selection, and cost analysis, ideally complemented by a proven track record in sourcing roles.
- At least 5 years of experience in Sourcing with a demonstrated ability to locate and secure global strategic vendor partnerships.
- Willingness to travel 25%-30% of the time.
- General knowledge of global Supply Chain, logistics, purchasing, and global trade regulations required.
- Understanding how to structure data and categorize products to enable development of commodity-level strategies consisting of groups of products.
- Experience with target costing a plus.
