Job description

Company Description
Since we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn't work together.
So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omnichannel solutions - to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, offer buy now, pay later functionality through Afterpay, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. Across it all, we've embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow in one place. Afterpay furthers our goal to provide omnichannel tools that unlock meaningful value and growth, enabling sellers to capture the next generation shopper, increase order sizes, and compete at a larger scale.
Today, we are a partner to sellers of all sizes - large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex operations, sellers just starting, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers grow, so do our solutions. There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We're building a significant, meaningful, and lasting business, and we are helping sellers worldwide do the same.
Job Description
Our team is spearheading the transformation of Square Invoices into a premier remote sales workflow management suite. Our goal is to empower sellers not only to manage their sales workflows efficiently but also to nurture and expand their buyer relationships through innovative, remote payment solutions. We are committed to deepening our payment capabilities while simultaneously expanding our ecosystem to offer tailored, end-to-end solutions for sellers in various industries. We are also focused on developing a robust, scalable platform that enhances the seller experience through customized journeys, integrating Square's diverse offerings for a cohesive, efficient, and targeted approach.
You Will:
  • Contribute to projects focusing on payment capabilities, invoice growth, and the development of a robust, scalable platform. You'll have the opportunity to work on features that enhance seller experiences and expand our market reach.
  • Bring high proficiency in iOS development, taking responsibility for the successful delivery of projects, including planning, risk management, development, testing, rollout, and maintenance.
  • Help guide the engineering implementation of seller facing projects, from idea stage to rolling out to our sellers.
  • Build high availability and resilient systems which can accept and report payments no matter the network or device conditions.
  • Partner with iOS, Android, and server engineers to ship features.
  • Work closely with product managers and designers to iterate on and define product scope and design.
  • Respond to customer feedback to improve our products.
  • Own and drive improvement of the health and quality of the codebase.

Qualifications
You have:
  • 8+ years experience developing and shipping iOS applications using Swift and/or Objective-C.
  • Experience creating readable, pragmatic code.
  • Strong communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with other functions, such as designers, product managers, data scientists, marketing, and business development to deliver a great product.
  • Demonstrated, first hand experience building products at scale.
  • An appreciation for the connection between the software you build and the experience it delivers to customers.
  • A passion for product development and seeing results.

Technologies we use and teach:
  • Swift and Objective-C.
  • Square's open source iOS frameworks: Workflow (state management), Blueprint (declarative UI).
  • UIKit, CoreAnimation, and CoreData.
  • Unit tests, snapshot tests, integration tests.
  • Service APIs and Protocol Buffers.
  • Bazel for our build environments.
