About the Role - Senior Software Engineer, AI Science

We’re growing our AI Science team. Currently, we apply mathematics and AI developed for identifying causes, treatments, and mortality during the pandemic to tracing the results of marketing initiatives. Your work will take our research and AI insights and put them into production.

What you'll do:

  • Become the bridge between cutting-edge research and real-world impact. As a Research Engineer, you'll transform research outputs into robust, production-ready code.

  • Craft well-engineered code. Translate research concepts into clean, maintainable, and scalable code using expertise in some backend language expertise.

  • Build at the edges, understand the system. You’ll combine cutting edge research with solid Software Engineering principles. Understand the architecture choices and their systemic impact.

  • Shepherd the journey. From planning to launch, you'll guide the release, operation, and qualification of your creations. Think documentation, monitoring, and proactive troubleshooting – you'll be the system's champion.

  • Continuously evolve. As your creations gain traction, adapt and improve them based on user feedback, changing needs, and the latest tech advancements. We’ll introduce each other to new open-source libraries and possibilities along the way.

Things that will help you succeed:

By design, this role thrives in ambiguity. It’s a good fit for someone who pushes boundaries and explores uncharted territories. As a result, there is no ideal candidate profile. There are several skills and attributes that will help you know whether you’ll thrive in this role. For example:

  • 5+ years building software at a high-growth startup or innovative large company.

  • Bonus points if you bring a data science specialty or background.

  • A deep understanding of distributed system designs.

  • Experiencing conducting performance testing, optimization, choosing storage infrastructure, and/or designing database schema.

  • Experience with cloud computing, cloud resource management, and capacity planning.

Who you are:

  • Engineer with a strong sense of ownership. You'll have the freedom to improve/evolve our systems and push the technical boundaries, as well as the responsibility to ensure reliable, stable day-to-day operations.

  • Self-taught, lifelong learner: You take great pride in your curiosity, constantly seeking new knowledge in a wide array of fields.

  • Fox, not a hedgehog: While others focus on one big thing, you thrive on exploring broad landscapes. You see connections everywhere, and bring ideas from seemingly different worlds together – think medical science meets marketing, or math meets art.

  • True startup tinkerer: Your heart beats to the rhythm of ideas and execution. You understand that innovation happens when ideas meet execution, and that it takes both of them together to propel tech forward.

  • Tech believer: You might feel wonder by the power of technology and its potential to still revolutionize the world.

  • One foot in, one foot out: You may have spent time in academia, and understand the value of research, but you also crave innovation and are willing to challenge the status quo.

  • Career pathfinder: You seek out challenges that rewrite the career rulebook, embracing pivots and unconventional journeys. Your Aunt Nancy might be confused by your work, but you know that the most exciting paths are often the least defined.

  • Trailblazer at heart: You thrive in the unknown, untangling complexity and making sense of the seemingly impossible. You understand that innovation often sounds strange at first, and you have the courage to forge your own path.

If you thrive on untangling complexity, revel in the unknown, and believe that the most exciting discoveries happen at the intersection of worlds, then we would love to hear from you. Please share your interest below on this page. Though they won’t always have neat answers, we are happy to answer your questions.

Why you might be excited about Alembic:

  • You want to build something that is both technologically challenging and solves a real customer need. You want a role with major upside that tackles a massive market opportunity.

  • You are a serial startup builder or want to earn growth stage experience before becoming a founder yourself. We have assembled a super team of leaders who have deep experience building and selling B2B marketing solutions that work.

  • You want to work where you can take a big swing at building something big while maximizing your personal growth.

Why you might not be excited:

  • If you only want to tell people instead of building and coding alongside them — and on your own — then we’re not the environment for you.

  • You prefer company practices with 100% built out process for every little detail.

  • You prefer static over dynamic. Projects, priorities, and roles will adapt to your skill set and your goals. Though we have real paying customers, and a playbook for growth, we proudly remain an early stage startup.

At Alembic diversity, equity, and inclusion are the core of who we are.

Our commitment to these values is unwavering, across all of our work around the world. They are central to our mission and to our impact. We know that having varied perspectives helps generate better ideas to solve the complex problems of a changing and increasingly diverse world. Further, Alembic believes that diversity and inclusion are an advantage to our business and our team. This commitment informs all our decisions, solutions, and customer interactions.

We’d love to share more with you. Thank you for reading. If you want to learn more about Alembic or this role, please let us know of your interest on this page.
