What will you do
Under supervision, the Senior Scientist R&D will be responsible for help shaping the strategy and leading the execution of the end to end pipeline for Scalp Health brands (eg Rogaine/Regaine). The individual will be working directly with the R&D Scalp COE and commercial teams. This includes upstream innovation, product development, business continuity, compliance, commercial innovation, cost improvement programs and enabling the global markets to deliver against 3-year operating plan whilst delivering GP improvements and embedding sustainability into all innovation.
The R&D Senior Scientist will be working internally and/or in partnership with external providers, and will be directly responsible for:
OTC and NDA R&D product development activities
Preparing lab batches, supporting the development plan creation and conducting tests accurately in accordance with the committed development plan
Demonstrate technical expertise in product design/formulation and process development/process scale-up
Operate and lead with general technical direction
Execute the E2E innovation pipeline with internal and external innovation models
Participate in cross-functional project team meetings to investigate problems, implement resolution, and develop optimized processes
Manage routine organizational processes and complexity
Provide guidance and lead solutions to technical problems
Draft and execute peer reviewed manuscripts, tech reports, claims substantiation documentation
Data and insights based risk-taking and decision making
Provide R&D progress/update to cross-functional project team
Follow standards and ensuring the department meets quality, medical and regulatory requirements.
Resolve issues with new products, tech transfer, and marketed products and processes
Identify improvement opportunities and technical ideas and concepts that impact project success
Financial Management
Understand the R&D business model and strategy.
Understand basic revenue models, P/L, and cost projections and make decisions accordingly.
Technical Understanding
Solid understanding of hair care formulation technology and chemical science
Experience in the lab conducting lab batches, testing, development and/or scale up
Experience with OTC and/or NDA requirements and regulations
Maintain awareness of new and emerging technologies and the potential applications on our brands and products.
Understanding of regulatory requirements for global and regional cosmetic and OTC claims.
Experience managing projects
Experience with technical services or process engineering in manufacturing plants
Day-to-day interaction with global Hubs and/or external development partnerships (as needed)
What we are looking for
Required Qualifications
Master Degree or equivalent in Science, Engineering, Pharmacy
5 years related experience including OTC and/or NDA products with preferred experience with Hair care
Experience with formulation and hair science is required
Cosmetics, OTC or pharmaceutical experience is required.
A good technical foundation of formulated products including emulsions, surfactants and understanding of material chemistry and process equipment is required.
Process development/process scale-up experience is required.
Experience working with manufacturing and technical project management is required
Fluent written and oral English communication skills are required
Availability to travel if needed (expected travel 5% of the time)

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $84,000 to $135,700.
