Job description

INVISTA has an immediate opening for a Senior Rotating Machinery Engineer - Operations Excellence. Ideally, this position will be based out of Houston, TX with travel up to 50% of the time.

The selected individual will create value as a key contributor for driving safety, environmental, and operational excellence from a corporate level, with a strong emphasis on mentoring and enhancing plant site capabilities. This is a strategic position requiring travel to various plant sites. The successful candidate will apply their extensive knowledge of Rotating Machinery Engineering to teach, guide, and uplift site personnel.

What You Will Do

  • Serve as a mentor to Site Engineers and Technicians, fostering skill development and expertise in Rotating Machinery maintenance and repair.
  • Travel to plant sites to conduct hands-on training sessions and workshops, enhancing site capabilities and knowledge base.
  • Partner with site resources and bring subject matter expert level capability to scope plan and execute work when there is an urgent need.
  • Lead by example in the application of critical thinking, engineering calculations, and data analysis for rotating equipment to drive stable and reliable operation.
  • Develop and implement strategic improvements to plant engineering programs, aligned with business goals.
  • Provide expert-level advice, guidance, and challenge for complex engineering, maintenance, or repair challenges, promoting a culture of continuous learning and development.
  • Collaborate with industry, peers, and site leaders to ensure the Rotating Machinery strategies and standards are transformed by leveraging emerging technology while maintaining the risk philosophy.
  • Ensure the vision for environmental, health, and safety excellence is applied to the Site/Business Unit assets through mechanical integrity.
  • Champion reliability strategies and coach site personnel to develop project justifications to address plant needs and opportunities for improvement.
  • Participate in root cause failure analysis related to equipment and recommended corrective actions to eliminate reoccurrence and bad actors.
  • Provide technical recommendations through the collection, analysis, and summary of data and trends.
  • Identify, evaluate, and deploy new technologies to accomplish reliability goals.
  • Support sites by evaluating and quantifying risk within the production areas so it can be properly managed.
  • Solve technical problems and steer economic decisions while working with a diverse workforce.
  • Problem solve and troubleshoot issues using transformative and innovative approaches.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Fifteen (15) or more years' experience in a Rotating Machinery Engineering role
  • Experience mentoring and skill development engineers or in an engineering context
  • Willing and able to travel up to 50% of the time as business needs indicate

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Leadership experience in a petrochemical plant or engineering repair facility
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
