As a member of the Knowledge Management Department, the Senior Risk Mitigation Analyst is responsible for independently providing sophisticated individual, business and legal related research and KM support to attorneys, paralegals, support staff and clients. Works collaboratively with attorneys, department colleagues, and various firm administrative departments to fulfill research and other KM requests.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist attorneys, paralegals, legal assistants, support staff and clients by conducting timely, complex research and locating needed materials in response to specific requests.
- Conduct advanced public records research to better understand financial and non-financial risk in support of firm and client requirements. This includes real estate records, corporate filings, service of process, liens and litigation records.
- Research current and potential firm clients to ascertain risk, in conjunction with new business intake and credit/collections teams.
- Provide due diligence research on potential firm hires.
- Compile multifaceted research into a variety of reports and presentations for distribution to internal and external consumers.
- Assist with internal news alerts, current awareness, search, external resources/tools, and other KM tools and resources.
- Research corporate family trees and affiliated companies to support conflicts review.
- Maintain trading compliance watch-list database and assisting with watch-list compliance questions.
- Retrieve court documents and articles as needed.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:
- Works on special projects (i.e., collection development) as assigned.
- Bill time for reference and research assistance in accordance with established methods and patterns
- Substitute for other staff members as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS (EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES):
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field required. Equivalent education and work experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Experience:
- Two to three years of experience in research, preferably in the legal industry. Familiarity and experience with public records research is a must.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Excellent computer/internet skills with proficiency in MS Office and Adobe Acrobat required.
- Familiar with various resources and tools, including, but not limited to: Accurint, TLO, D&B Financial Analytics (D&B Credit), Westlaw, and Bloomberg Law.
- Superior oral and written communication skills, exceptional interpersonal skills and innovative problem solving skills.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills required for successful achievement of position goals in this fast-paced environment. Must be able to multi-task and prioritize in accordance with changing deadlines and priorities.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This job operates in a clerical, office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Sedentary work: Exertion of physical strength to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects up to 10 pounds. Work involves sitting most of the time. Walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties.
VISUAL ACUITY
Worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
