Pay

This position is a Non-Exempt position at pay grade 103.

Attendance

Rotating 15-hour work week, hours will vary based on program needs; must be available to work additional hours as needed.

Overview

The Senior Recreation Leader assists the Recreation Coordinator II, Assistant Program Manager, or Program Manager by providing leadership and functional supervision to recreation programs for the Parks and Recreation department. This position directs and leads the activities of the recreational programs by organizing and implementing the programs and over-seeing participants.

Responsibilities

  • Personifies leadership and promotes shared responsibility, teamwork, and continuous improvement by assisting the coordinators, supervisors, and program managers in planning, organizing, observing, and directing a variety of recreational activities in a recreation program area
  • Drives to Athletics field sites daily for walk through of playing field or indoor facility
  • Responds to and resolves complaints by advising and providing assistance to individuals and groups on related recreational problems
  • Assists and responds to the general public regarding questions, comments, or concerns, and alerts supervisors of such actions
  • Performs minor maintenance by assisting with facility clean up after Sports league and special programs events
  • Assists with marketing by posting flyers and posters at Athletics sites during events
  • Applies First Aid and CPR techniques as needed
  • Maintains discipline, order, and crowd control at activity site by maintaining view of children and surroundings, ensuring proper ratio of children to staff, and addressing discipline, in a positive and consistent manner
  • May be asked to perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Requires a High School Diploma/GED
  • Minimum of six (6) months to one (1) year of experience
  • A combination of education and pertinent experience may be considered
  • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Basis of Rating

Application review and the City may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
