- The Senior Reactor Structural Analysis Engineer is a dedicated position focused on analyzing the mechanical performance of various reactor core components, reactor structures, and nuclear island components.
- The Senior Reactor Structural Analysis Engineer will report to the Structural Analysis Manager and will join the Mechanical Design Discipline.
- The Senior Reactor Structural Analysis Engineer will work as part of a high functioning team of engineers and scientists focused on developing the design of next generation advanced nuclear reactors.
- Perform mechanical analyses of reactor structures, systems, and nuclear island components to verify that their performance remains within imposed limits as defined by applicable structural and pressure equipment codes and standards (AISC and ASME BPVC).
- Work with interdisciplinary team of engineers to establish and optimize nuclear components design consistent with required functional and quality requirements.
- Establish and maintain documents of analysis results and design solutions.
- Key Qualifications and Skills
- B.S, or advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering from accredited university.
- Aerospace and Civil Engineering degrees are also considered.
- Minimum of five years of related experience with a B.S. degree, relevant M.S. and Doctorate degrees may be credited for up to two and four years of experience respectively.
- Proficient in finite element stress analysis, mechanical analysis methods and commercial mechanical stress analysis modeling tools with emphasis on ABAQUS or ANSYS.
- Strong understanding of solid mechanics, fracture mechanics, and metal fatigue principles.
- Candidate should have demonstrated experience in mechanical analysis of equipment or components.
- This may include buckling analysis, thermal analysis, or creep / inelastic analysis.
- Working experience with pressure equipment design codes and standards such as ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section VIII, Section III, ASME B31.1, and ASME B31.3.
- Proficient in computer code development and knowledgeable in modern programming tools on personal computers and code development for parallel processing such as Python preferred.
- Thorough understanding of the requirements for the design one or more applicable pressure equipment codes (i.e., ASME B31.1 Power Piping, ASME B31.3 Process Piping, ASME Boiler Pressure Vessel Code (III, or VIII) preferred.
- Experience or familiarity with the rules of with ASME Boiler Pressure Vessel Code Section III Division 5 preferred.
- Previous experience in the nuclear industry preferred.
- Experience with design for Flow Induced Vibration (FIV) or working under a Comprehensive Vibration Assessment Program (CVAP) preferred.
