Senior R&D Lab Technician

CONMED is looking for a full-time Senior R&D Lab Technician to support the research team in our Denver, CO design center.

Our Senior R&D Lab Technician will partner with research and design engineers to perform preclinical tissue testing, collect/dissect tissue samples for testing, execute test protocols and procedures, document test results and findings, assist with test fixture builds, review prototypes, maintain the laboratory space and equipment, and place tissue and equipment/part orders. The Senior R&D Lab Technician will also be present and assist at study sites to help support the execution of test procedures and data collection for preclinical tissue studies.

With this role, you must work well within a team environment, be able to balance multiple projects and priorities, be able to learn and take directions from others, and have a strong work ethic to complete tasks in a timely fashion.

The Senior R&D Lab Technician will have immediate opportunities to contribute to new product development with a focus on minimally invasive surgical technologies designed to deliver real benefits to surgeons, hospitals, and their patients. Advanced Surgical Products Include, but are not limited to, Advanced insufflation systems, Advanced energy systems, Electrosurgical units (ESU's), and Laparoscopic surgical instruments.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Execute tissue, mechanical, electrical, and/or software testing protocols and procedures with little direction or feedback needed after training.

• Collect/dissect tissue for executing test protocols and procedures.

• Perform testing on tissue samples, mechanical systems, electrical systems, and software protocols for short and long-term data collection studies.

• Draft technical reports, including documentation of the test setup, test setup schematics, photos, and observational notes from the testing for submission in the final test report.

• Work closely with the research team to identify trends and correlations from test data for product design improvements.

• Maintain laboratory space for organization and cleanliness, and supply stock for tissue and equipment.

• Maintain lab equipment and manage the calibration process of lab equipment.

• Communication on research test/project progress and related information.

• Coordinate changes in methods, design, or equipment where necessary.

• Build prototypes of mechanical/electrical devices.

• Troubleshoot various test equipment for failures and deviations from calibration specifications.

• Perform or coordinate with suppliers the maintenance or repair of lab equipment including purchasing of appropriate supplies and materials.

• 10-20% travel for performing activities at study sites.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of relevant industry experience.

• Experience using lab equipment and tools, including the ability to assemble test setups and test fixtures.

• Experience using power and hand tools, and shop equipment.

• Experience assembling and modifying prototypes or systems for testing and data collection.

• Ability to sit/stand for 8 hours.

• Ability to lift boxes up to 50 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Associate degree or certificate training in related technical field preferred.

• Good color perception for observing changes to samples.

• Experience in medical devices or biomedical research.

• Experience working in a laboratory setting.

• Experience working with microscopes for collecting images and measurements.

• Experience with preclinical testing and good documentation practices.

• Experience ordering, tracking, and maintaining tissue for testing purposes.

• Knowledge of tissue mechanics including the effects of the application of mechanical, electrical, and thermal stimuli.

• Knowledge of appropriate standards and procedures for good laboratory practices.

Disclosure as required by applicable law, the hourly range for this position is 22.00 to 35.00. The actual compensation may vary based on geographic location, work experience, education and skill level. The hourly range is CONMED's good faith belief at the time of this posting.
