- Assists the Quality Manager in establishing and maintaining the quality management system (QMS)
- Oversees the Internal Audit schedule and may conduct internal audits or interim monitoring and follow-up as required
- Performs root-cause analysis and partners with stakeholders to implement appropriate corrective actions and preventive action plans for process-related issues & product non-conformance; communicates with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and customers in a timely manner to resolve issues and prevent recurrence
- Maintains the non-conformance database, analyzing trends and providing periodic and ad-hoc reporting; updates metrics and communicates with leadership regarding overall health of the QMS
- Manages the calibration system to minimize operational interruption; ensures all tools are calibrated as required, labeled appropriately, and removed from service as needed
- Coordinates and/or conducts continuous improvement activities (5S, Kaizen, lean, etc.) to support quality initiatives
- Develops and/or delivers training to bolster quality awareness and ensure compliance with established practices and procedures
- Directs the creation of inspection plans for all new parts, including drawings, CMM programs, sampling plans, and control plans
- Interfaces with Engineering and Operations personnel to ensure new products are successfully transitioned from development to production in compliance with approved specifications, processes, and necessary training and documentation
- Supports inspectors to ensure they understand relevant requirements of the QMS; collaborates with inspectors and operations personnel to optimize inspection processes and procedures
- Ensures timely resolution of supplier quality issues, issuing corrective and preventive actions as required; may coordinate with procurement and accounting to ensure supplier credits or charge-backs are processed accurately
- Monitors supplier quality and addresses trends, making recommendations to leadership as appropriate; may perform on-site assessments or audits as required
- Work is to be performed on-site at the manufacturing facility during a regularly assigned shift
Required Education
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or similar technical field is preferred (a combination of non-technical education and relevant work experience or specialized training may be considered in lieu of technical degree)Six Sigma Certification is preferred
- Minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years' work experience in senior level quality assurance/quality control capacity for manufacturing is required
- Internal audit experience is required; certification is advantageous
- ISO or similar Certification Audit experience is required (AS9100 preferred)
- Specialized training and experience conducting continuous improvement activities is preferred
- Ability to accurately read and interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, and technical specifications is required
- Professional written and verbal communication (English) to convey both technical and non-technical information and instructions is required
- Computer proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) is required; experience administering Sharepoint including utilization of workflows and document revision tracking is preferred
- Experience using an ERP system is preferred
- Knowledge of and experience with the use of CMM systems and precision measurement instruments is preferred
- Practical knowledge of and experience performing statistical analysis is preferred
- Ability to problem solve and use root-cause analysis tools (Ishikawa, 5why, 8D, etc. is preferred
Physical Demands and Work Environment
To perform the essential functions of the role, employees must be able to perform the following activities with or without reasonable accommodations
Physical Requirements:
- Sit for prolonged periods at a desk and working on a computer
- Regularly stand and walk throughout the facility, including all buildings and the manufacturing areas; occasionally navigating rough or uneven terrain
- Regularly lift, carry (short-distances), and push/pull up to 50 pounds
- Occasionally climb steps, stairs, or ladders
- Occasionally bend, crawl, stoop, squat, or kneel
- Constantly communicate verbally and in writing (English) using a phone, texts or other messaging, and email
- Demonstrate visual acuity to accurately interpret precision measuring instruments and to distinguish colors to assess and accurately respond to sensors, indicators, and color variable dashboards
- Use hands and fingers to operate computer keyboards and peripherals, measurement instruments, and to physically examine manufactured parts
Work is performed in a combination of locations including offices and the manufacturing shop environment where working conditions vary significantly; the employee will be exposed to:
- Excessive noise (occasionally)
- Dust, smoke, fumes/vapors (occasionally)
- Extreme temperatures (occasionally)
- Hazardous equipment including forklifts, hand tools, cranes or other lifting devices, complex machining centers and other equipment used in a machine shop environment (occasionally)
