PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Senior Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring that Bird products and services meet customers’ expectations through conformance with the ISO 9001:2015 and ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standards, establishment of appropriate quality controls, design and development support, and investigation and resolution of customer complaints. This position reports directly to the Quality Manager.
GENERAL FUNCTIONS/ SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Develop an environment of continual improvement through the use of Lean tools.
2. Promote the Bird Family Values through your actions – Trust, Innovation, Teamwork, Achievement and Accountability.
3. Be able to describe the quality policy and goals, your contribution to quality, and the effects of not observing quality and customer requirements.
4. Provide MRB (Material Review Board) process oversight: Manage the MRB database for Production, coordinate MRB meetings, process dispositions, and create initial rework instructions.
5. Owner of the quality procedure for “Control of Nonconforming Product”.
6. Act as the quality lead for Design and Development support. Assist in all phases of the product lifecycle in implementing and improving quality. Perform inspections on new product where applicable.
7. Support product compliance. Ensure Declarations of Conformity are accurate. Participate in and/or coordinate surveillance audits with SGS, UL, etc.
8. Review Engineering Change Requests and support new product release.
9. Complete First Article Inspection reports, interact with customer portals to gather requirements and submit reports.
10. Conduct customer complaint investigations: Review cases, work with applicable departments on product return, and participate in investigations, resolutions, and response to the customer. Assist in maintaining complaint records.
11. Perform ISO/IEC 17025 internal audits. Serve as a SME on the standard.
12. Support ISO 17025 and ISO 9001 External Recertification.
13. Contribute to pFMEAs.
14. Support Incoming Quality Inspection.
15. Other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
1. Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline. Electrical Engineering preferred.
2. Background in electronics manufacturing preferred. RF components knowledge.
3. 5+ years’ experience in Quality Assurance.
4. ISO/IEC 17025 internal auditor experience. Familiarity with A2LA preferred.
5. Familiarity with Metrology.
6. Understanding of uncertainties as it relates to products.
7. Ability to perform quality data analysis. Excellent communication and team skills.
8. Previous experience with direct reports preferred.
9. Ability to provide guidance to Quality Engineers and technicians
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Operate computer and keyboard. Ability to operate test equipment related to Quality/Metrology functions. Able to use phone; communicate using speech; hearing and vision skills; sit or stand for moderate periods.
