ABOUT THE COURT

Los Angeles Superior Court is the largest unified trial court in the United States. Its 580 judges and commissioners work in one of the 36 facilities within the Court's 12 judicial districts and are supported by more than 4,500 full-time Court employees. The Court has an annual budget of more than $1 billion. Located in Southern California, Los Angeles County is geographically one of the nation's largest counties, covering 4,084 square miles and, with over 10,400,000 residents, is also one of its most populous counties.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Under general supervisor, the Senior Public Information Representative creates strategic communications for external and internal stakeholders and handles media relations duties as assigned. Typically reporting to the Media Relations Administrator, the Senior Public Information Representative responds to inquiries made on behalf of the general public, media, and/or court staff and disseminates information related to court operations in ways that promote public trust and confidence in the judicial branch and the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles. Other chief responsibilities include creating and editing videos for internal and external audiences as well as researching, writing and editing complex technical publications in a variety of formats such as content for newsletters, annual reports, news releases, flyers, and website content.

TELEWORK OPPORTUNITIES
This position is eligible for partial telework following an initial training period.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

To qualify, you must meet one (1) of the following options at the time of filing:


OPTION I: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major* in marketing, public relations, communications, journalism, public administration, or a closely related field -AND- three (3) years of progressively responsible experience researching procedural, governmental, or similar complex information that includes technical writing including editing and daily news reporting on deadline for newspapers, and/or news releases, web-based communications, and other internal and external publications and communications.


OPTION II: A Master's Degree* in marketing, public relations, communications, journalism, public administration, or a closely related field -AND- one (1) year of progressively responsible experience researching procedural, governmental, or similar complex information that includes technical writing including editing and daily news reporting on deadline for newspapers, and/or news releases, web-based communications, and other internal and external publications and communications.
Note: Credit for experience is given based on a 40-hour workweek. Part-time experience is credited on a part-time ratio, i.e., working 20 hours per week for two months equals one month of experience. No additional credit is given for overtime.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate will possess the following desirable qualifications:

  • Experience working in a government Communication/Media Relations Office.
  • Experience creating strategic communication for external and internal stakeholders.
  • Experience working with media, public figures, and/or high-profile individuals or groups.
  • Experience writing and editing material such as news releases, news articles, flyers, and/or social media/web content.
  • Experience responding to inquiries made on behalf of the general public, and media.
  • Experience in the journalism field.
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently handle multiple, simultaneous, and complex tasks and projects in a fast-paced environment.
