Senior Product Design Engineer

Enstall is seeking a Senior level Product Design Engineer to design, develop and enhance its residential system solar racking and mounting products.

What You’ll Do

• Working within a dynamic product development team, responsible for leading product development projects on new and advanced products as well as existing solar racking and mounting products.

• Working with project management, testing, application engineering, manufacturing engineering, sourcing, quality and other areas of the company.

• Generating and presenting wide ranging concepts to meet customer and business needs using brainstorming, sketches, quick mockups, simple CAD and other techniques.

• Leading R&D efforts to develop and verify the best concepts using 3D CAD, fast prototyping, and cross-functional input.

• Creating production-level drawings

• Collaborating with suppliers on design for manufacturing strategies

• Applying sound processes to manage uncertainties including prototyping to verify fit, function, adherence to standards and defining test and qualification plans.

• Support and managing projects through regular project meetings, schedules, cost, and uncertainty/risk burn down.

• Strong understanding of the product development phase/gate process

• Ability to use knowledge of manufacturing methods/materials to drive down costs in cost reduction programs.

What You’ll Bring

• BS/BA in relevant engineering field (Mechanical, Materials, Aerospace etc.)

• Minimum 4 years applicable work experience.

• Successful experience with designing for cost-effective, high-volume production methods. These should include many of the following: extrusion, casting, die-casting, cold heading, and stampings using materials including aluminum, stainless steel, and coated steel (for 25-year outdoor life).

• Ability to meet with domestic and overseas suppliers in person or virtually.

• Strong component design, 3D modeling, and drawing skills, preferably SolidWorks.

• Ability to communicate and collaborate across functional groups and diverse audiences, while working in a dynamic team and project focused environment.

• An enthusiastic collaborative and learning focused approach to Product Design.

• Ability to use basic shop tools and equipment, and measurement tools to build mockups and prototypes. Assess usability, fit, form and function, and effect on product requirements.

PREFERRED:

• Experience developing and launching products for outdoor use requiring structural and electrical performance over the designed lifetime.

• Knowledge of Statics and Mechanics of Materials. Understanding and obtaining reaction loads and moments. Calculate stresses from loads applied and identify the full range of failure modes for a given product.

• Experience with solar product development

• Strong track record in similar roles with a portfolio of previous work that demonstrates candidate’s abilities.

• Construction and building experience.

• Knowledge of UL requirements, product certification and ISO

• Ability to travel up to 5-10% of your time, including occasional international travel.

Where You'll Be Located

This position is 100% on-site in Phoenix, AZ. Remote work 1-2 days per week is acceptable.

What We’ll Offer

We offer competitive compensation determined by each individual's relevant experience, skills, education and location. We anticipate the base salary for this position to be between $100,000 and $120,000 annually, if located in the Bay Area market. In addition to base salary, Enstall employees are eligible for either an annual bonus or commission, depending on their position. If your desired salary falls outside of these rates, we hope you'll still apply as there may be other positions that better align.
