GENERAL SUMMARY

The Senior Plumber performs highly skilled maintenance related duties in an area of specialty at the RDU Airport facilities. Additionally, the Senior Maintenance Mechanic will assist with weather related activities such as snow removal and or hurricane preparedness to maintain a 24/7 operation.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

  • Locate underground utilities (water and sewer).
  • Checks and repairs sewer lift stations and irrigation pump stations including motors, pumps, sluce gates, and other equipment as needed.
  • Oversees and installs new plumbing, including pipes, valves, drains, basins, faucets, lavatories, sinks, drinking fountains, hot water heaters, and a wide variety of other plumbing fixtures and equipment. 
  • Performs repair of old plumbing, including fixtures and pipelines, clean and open traps, drains and other lines.
  • Solders and repairs copper pipes.
  • Working an on-call shift determined by co-worker rotation for response to emergency situations.
  • Keep work orders updated and add comments as needed.
  • Conducts estimates on time and materials required for jobs.
  • Conducts preventive maintenance on plumbing fixtures and systems.
  • Conducts annual inspections and testing.
  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
  • Performs related work in support of grounds keeping and maintenance functions (grass cutting, painting, fence repair, masonry, cleaning).
  • Assists with snow removal efforts and other inclement weather-related needs.
  • Communicate to supervisor observations and issues concerning maintenance needs.
  • Performs related work as required.

HIRING RANGE:

  • Maximum - Based on qualifications
  • Minimum - $27.89  

    QUALIFICATIONS 

    Education:

    Required: 

    • High School diploma or equivalent

    Preferred:

     Associate degree or Apprentice Program

    Experience:

    Required:

    5 years of experience in the plumbing trade.

    Preferred:

    • 7 years of experience in plumbing trade.

    Licenses or Certifications:

    Required:  

    • Valid NC Driver’s License
    • CDL class B License (or ability to obtain within 9 months)

    Preferred:  

    • NC Plumbing License or Construction Generalist Certificate

    COMPETENCIES FOR SUCCESSFUL PERFORMANCE OF JOB DUTIES

    Knowledge of:

    • Specific Mechanical systems relevant to the role.
    • Working knowledge and experience of mechanical and utility systems
    • The use of mechanical and hand tools, power tools and mechanical testing equipment
    • The operation of various types of aerial lifts including work at heights up to 60 feet
    • English grammar, spelling, punctuation
    • Modern office procedures, methods, and computer equipment
    • The use of maintenance work order systems for work assignments and documenting work activities.
    • The operation of heavy equipment such as dump trucks and front-end loaders
    • Protocols for cleaning up hazardous waste spills
    • Safety rules and regulations required in the specific
    • Hand tools, power tools, testing equipment, and industrial equipment
    • Principles and practices of basic bookkeeping
    • Modern office procedures, methods, and computer equipment used to document work, inventory, and work orders.

     Skilled in:

    • Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships.
    • Performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature
    • High level of attention to detail
    • Performing basic mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, and ratios
    • Critical thinking to solve problems and formulate solutions.
