Senior Plant Engineer

Our Engineering and Product Development team has an immediate opening at our flagship Buena, NJ plant for a Sr. Plant Engineer who is ready to take their career to the next level. As a Sr. Plant Engineer at Comar you will be a critical member of the team leading strategic capital engineering projects, with a particular focus on automated manufacturing equipment and auxiliary systems. From conceptualizing innovative automated manufacturing processes through its execution, this role provides day to day management of the project ensuring it remains on track, under the budget and deliver on the approved scope. What you will do:
  • Work with customers as well as the vendors for bringing innovative technological solutions to solve complex manufacturing problems.
  • Support the Custom-Quote team to develop proposals for automated manufacturing lines and infrastructure projects.
  • Drive successful implementation and management of capital projects through overall project management of assigned project's entire lifecycle including operational readiness of the organization, customer communications, etc.
  • Oversee day to day management of projects with consistent on-site presence.
  • Manage costs to stay within budget constraints with responsibility for cost estimation, budgeting, forecasting and management of contingency and allowances, cash flow etc.
  • Manage project scheduling, define project execution strategies, project planning and scheduling practices, coordination of project activities, and schedule change management techniques.
  • Lead scope development, finalization, stakeholder alignment, scope change management.
  • Plan, organize, and oversee the attainment of project performance goals, objectives, priorities, and standards.
  • Host regular project meetings to ensure team members are tracking to timely completion of assigned tasks and key issues, risks, blockers are identified.
  • Identify key decisions that need to be made, develops recommendations, and aligns stakeholders on the ultimate decision.
  • Ensure the completeness and quality of work packages and project deliverables.
  • Coordinate and align priorities and resources, as well as drives team engagement and motivation.
  • Manage vendor relationships relevant to project throughout the life cycle, including procurement processes, contract negotiations, and vendor/ contractor performance management.
  • Proactively identify, manage and report to all relevant parties including upper management, any risks to cost, schedule, scope or intended use of the project or its business case.
  • Ensure regular communication regarding project updates to involved parties on project goals, objectives, priorities, plans, financials, schedules, issues, risks and metrics.
  • Ensure operation in accordance with company policies and procedures, local regulations, FDA regulations and ISO standards.
  • Lead cross functional teams to effectively execute assigned projects.
  • Stay current with industry and technology trends applying best practices.

Who we're looking for:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of manufacturing or automation engineering experience in plastics or related manufacturing industry.
  • Minimum of 5 years project management experience leading large scale engineering projects.
  • Hands-on experience in manufacturing automation, robotics, and equipment engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of plant HVAC, compressed air, cooling towers, and chilled water systems.
  • Solid understanding of product conveying, assembly, packaging, and control.
  • Proficient in CAD design and PLC programming languages.
  • Proven ability to direct, plan, lead, manage and coordinate team to deliver on expectations of diverse set of clients such as Manufacturing, Commercial, Product Development, Quality & Regulatory and Supply Chain.
  • Experience with Continuous Improvement and Quality Management techniques such as Six Sigma, Lean, TQM, Deming, etc. - together with superior project management skill.

Preferred:
  • Experience in Medical Device Manufacturing & Packaging.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification.
  • Master's degree in engineering or a related field.

  • Ability to translate business needs into appropriate technical design; Implications of technical choices on scope, cost, schedule, standards used, business risks, regulatory compliance etc.
  • Expertise in process of project management; understands and champions role of engineering and need to maintain active participation; value of milestones and deliverables; Need of actively managing cost, schedule and scope; Change Management, Value Engineering etc.
  • Experience in Start-up, Commissioning, Verification, Qualification, Validation
  • Strong knowledge of local regional, national, industry-wide codes and regulations in various functional areas.
  • Fundamental design principles, regulatory requirements and acceptable practices for commissioning, qualification and validation of facility, equipment and systems in cGMP environments
  • Ability to coordinate with various resources and keep all parties on task, on time, and on budget.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, both written and verbal with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to effectively lead cross-functional, cross-cultural, geographically dispersed team to meet business objectives.
  • Good technical writing skills
  • Clear sense of ethical decision making
  • Inquisitive, self-starter and can work autonomously with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work collaboratives across various levels in the organization and gain the trust of co-workers and customers.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and demands and create sense of urgency for the fast-paced manufacturing environment.
