The CSG Building & Safety Division is currently hiring for two full-time positions which can be hybrid or remote: (1 ) a CA Licensed Mechanical Engineer or, (2) a CA Licensed Electrical Engineer. These positions under direction will check building plans for residential, commercial and other structures to ensure compliance with mechanical / plumbing or Electrical codes, (depending on position applying for) local ordinances, and State and Federal law; may conduct field inspections.
Responsibilities
- Strong understanding of California Building Standards Codes and Referenced Standards.
- Ability to read and interpret maps, construction diagrams, plans, blueprints and specifications and evaluate them for compliance with governing codes and standards.
- Exhibit sound judgment in providing expert code interpretation.
- Ability to suggest alternate forms of compliance with codes and ordinances.
- Prepare and present effective oral and written reports.
- Represent the department at internal and external meetings.
- Current on legal and technical developments pertaining to building construction and codes.
- Ability to mentor and train plans examiners and Plan Check Engineers as needed.
- Function independently as an expert in matters of specialized code, rules, and policy.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
- 5 + years of industry experience, including 2 + years reviewing plans for conformance to model codes.
- Current PE California License (Mechanical or Electrical) is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university.
- Strong computer skills (Bluebeam, Bluebeam Studio, Microsoft Office)
- Ability to manage multiple projects independently and with the team.
- Excellent communicator and deals effectively with both internal and external clients.
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
- Possession and maintenance of a valid Class “C” California driver’s license is required.
Working Conditions
- Able to drive to job sites and be able to walk in and through job sites for extended periods.
- Comfortable working hybrid or remote.
- Able to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 35 lbs.
- Sit for extended periods of time.
- Work with detailed, finely printed documents.

The compensation for this position is $105,000 - $170,000 per year
Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.
