NIRSense is a medical technology company focused on developing world-leading Wearable Systems. Our tools measure blood oxygenation changes in the body 10x deeper than pulse oximetry and track the electrophysiological activity of muscles and the brain. Job Summary:

NIRSense is seeking an experienced electronics technician to work alongside our growing engineering and scientific team in its Morrisville, NC office. The successful candidate will be responsible for the assembly, inspection, and repair of complex PCBs destined for high-reliability medical monitoring equipment. Our technician will work closely with electronics and firmware engineers and quality specialists to ensure the highest standards of quality and performance are met at every stage. The successful candidate must thrive in a fast-paced and high-performance team.


Salary: The compensation package will be commensurate with the successful applicant’s experience. The anticipated hiring range is between $75,000-$95,000.


Hours: Full time


Travel: 0-5%


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree or higher in Electronics or related field plus industry experience
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a PCB or Electronics Technician, preferably in the military, medical device, or automotive industry
  • Proven ability to assemble and rework printed circuit boards to exacting standards with precision and consistency

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in using various inspection tools and techniques, including microscopes, DMMs, and oscilloscopes
  • Strong understanding of electronic components, schematics, and PCB fabrication processes
  • Experience reworking small passives down to 0201 footprints as well as fine-pitch BGA components
  • Expert knowledge of rigid, flex, and rigid-flex PCB assembly and rework constraints
  • Ability to learn new technologies and adapt to changing requirements
  • Prior experience working with startups and with a local network

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform complex PCB assembly tasks, including soldering, component placement, and wiring in accordance with IPC standards and best practices for single and multi-board assemblies with sensitive optical components and biosignal measurement circuitry
  • Conduct comprehensive inspections of incoming and outgoing PCBs, ensuring compliance with stringent quality standards and regulations
  • Employ troubleshooting techniques to diagnose and repair dysfunctional PCBs, ensuring proper resolution with minimal downtime.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of all assembly, inspection, and repair activities
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and company quality standards, taking ownership of NIRSense’s electronics assembly and rework practices
  • Stay informed about industry advancements and best practices in PCB assembly and repair
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, suggesting and implementing process enhancements to increase quality and efficiency
  • Provide technical writing support for internal and external documents, including rework procedures and assembly instructions
  • Report to the Director of Engineering
