Our location in Temecula, CA currently has an opportunity for a Senior Microbiologist
The Opportunity
This position works out of our Temecula, CA location in the Abbott Vascular Division. Our medical devices help more than 10,000 people have healthier hearts, improve quality of life for thousands of people living with chronic pain and movement disorders, and liberate more than 500,000 people with diabetes from routine fingersticks. Abbott Vascular provides innovative, minimally invasive, and cost-effective products for treatment of vascular disease.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Establishment and operation of microbiology laboratory including developing and implementing microbiology testing. Environmental testing (air, surface, gas, fluid, bioburden), microbial ID, Bacterial Endotoxin Test, and new types of biological testing as necessary.
What You'll Work On
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conduct microbiology testing including special studies.
  • Write protocols and reports (bioburden recovery, etc.).
  • Determine new test methods as appropriate.
  • Monitor equipment performance and calibration schedules.
  • Create laboratory operation procedures and follows guidelines from regulatory agencies.
  • Establishes and cultivates an extensive network of support to facilitate completion of assignments.
  • Participates in the development of less experienced staff by setting an example, providing guidance and work direction, and offering counsel.
  • May lead a project team.
  • Participates in determining goals and objectives for projects.
  • Influences middle management on technical or business solutions.
  • Interacts with vendors and internal customers
  • Plans and organizes non-routine tasks w/approval.
  • Initiates or maintains work schedule.
  • Establishes priorities of work assignments.
  • Exercises judgment in selecting innovative, practical methods to achieve problem resolution.
  • Conducts training on microbiology and contamination control topics for Microbiology and other functional areas.
  • Failure to obtain results or erroneous decisions or recommendations would typically result in serious program delays and considerable expenditure of resources.

Minimum Experience / Training Required
Education
Bachelors Degree in a related field or and an equivalent combination of education and work experience. Masters Degree preferred.
Experience/Background
  • Minimum 6+ years related work experience with a strong understanding of specified functional area.
  • Wide application of technical principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Knowledge and experience with practical application of relevant ISO Standards, USP methods and other industry standards and regulations.
  • Strong understanding of business unit function and cross group dependencies/relationships.
  • Will perform this job in a quality system environment.
  • Failure to adequately perform tasks can result in noncompliance with governmental regulations.
  • Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Exercises judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
  • Has a sound knowledge of various technical alternatives and their impact.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

The base pay for this position is
$72,700.00 - $145,300.00
In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
