Job Duties:
- A lead designer and team leader in facility designs and layouts with expert level knowledge of technical applications, maintenance, operation, and clearance constraints of structural systems.
- Highly skilled and knowledgeable of codes typically applicable to equipment and construction including ASME, AISC, AWS, OSHA, NFPA, local codes, and MCBU standards and COMPANY Chevron Engineering Standards etc.
- A self-starter and proficient designer capable of performing all design and modeling tasks required for delivering purchasing and construction level drawings with limited direction.
- Successfully creates complex, reliable models with precision and a high degree of accuracy including mating surfaces, finding correct library parts, performing extrusions, creating assemblies, exploded view diagrams, and layouts with BOM’s.
- Consistently produces all layouts and section views with accurate BOM’s, callouts, and dimensions.
- Leads incorporation of value engineered alternatives into standard practices and templates
- Performs most design calculations and simulations such as flow models, piping and structural stress analysis for engineer review.
- As a department technical resource and team leader, acts as a coach and mentor to other designers including training designers on industry and department practices/standards.
- Develops, improves, and publishes department practices/standards.
- Reviews scope documents and specifications for verification of design against the design intent and customer requirements
- Prepares accurate drafting/design estimates based on review of scope documents and specifications.
- Successfully leads teams of designers through complex projects.
- Serves as a design leader, helping reinforce the desired culture and work environment of the department.
- Assists with checking other designer work when required.
- Assists department management with setting the direction of the department.
- Consistently executes the design process per all department processes from inception to closure.
- Conducts flawless model reviews per department processes; audits the models and model reviews of other designers.
- Travels to customer or vendor sites as required.
Requirements:
- Associates degree in a technical discipline, engineering technology, or graphics design
- 15+ years of mechanical and civil/structural design experience relevant to the oil and gas, industrial construction, or power generation industries; 3D AutoCAD Plant 3D and Process Plant Layout and Piping Design certifications/experience required
- Proficiency and strong knowledge of codes related to equipment and construction including ASME, AISC, AWS, OSHA, NFPA and Engineering Standards
- Expert experience performing all design and modeling tasks required for delivering purchasing and construction level drawings with limited direction including finding library parts, performing extrusions, creating assemblies, exploded view diagrams and layouts with BOM’s.
- Must have strong knowledge/experience with design calculations and simulations such as flow models, piping and structural stress analysis for engineer review
- Strong initiative and self-starter
- Multi-task orientation with skills related to work prioritizing
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills in a team environment
