Open Until FilledTransylvania County Schools seeks a Senior Marine Instructor for the Marine Corps Junior ROTC program at Brevard High School. Position is available July 1, 2024. Position is full-time and includes employment benefits; 12-month employment term. Applicants for the position must hold or be eligible to hold NC licensure in area 999 Junior ROTC. Additionally, applicants must be retired Marine Corps or Navy officers and must have prior approval of the Marine Corps JROTC program prior to applying for this position. Per MCO P1533.6E, "Interested applicants MUST be approved by the CG, TECOM before being considered for employment as an SMI or MI in the MCJROTC program." Applicants pending MCJROTC instructor approval cannot contact, interview, or otherwise, be a part of any employment process with a School District without a CG, TECOM SIGNED approval letter.
Qualifications (per Marine Corps JROTC program):
1. Officer or Warrant Officer with at least 20 years (or Temporary Early Retirement Authority (TERA) program with 15 or more years active duty) who are eligible to receive retirement pay upon release from active duty.
2. Bachelor's Degree. All college degrees will be verified for accreditation under the standards of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Degrees from colleges, universities and institutions for higher education that cannot be found on the CHEA website www.chea.org will not be accepted. All Marines submitting an application for certification as a MCJROTC Senior Marine Instructor should ensure their college degree(s) is listed with CHEA.

General Description of the Position:
Senior Marine Instructor (SMI): Senior Marine Instructors manage the MCJROTC Program at their respective schools. They function as regular faculty members and have the same responsibilities as department heads in the school. The SMI distributes the instructional workload with the MI. In addition to teaching duties, the SMI works with both the school and community in maintaining and strengthening the MCJROTC program. Individuals employed as MCJROTC Instructors will not perform duties or teach classes in any other discipline unless the performance of such duties does not interfere with both the curricular and extracurricular activities associated with the conduct of the MCJROTC Program. This provision is not intended to preclude MCJROTC Instructors from serving on committees or performing other routine duties that are regularly rotated among faculty members. Because of their duties, MCJROTC Instructors are required to be in good physical condition and able to demonstrate physical training techniques and supervise cadet activities.
