The Senior Manufacturing Technician is the first responder for essential equipment and technical operations support. This position will provide support to operations, quality, and technical management for the Service Center. The scope includes Service Center operations, process, and equipment validation support; repairs and preventive maintenance on equipment, machinery, and building facilities. The Senior Manufacturing Technician will collect data, and use their technical knowledge to troubleshoot, disassemble, and take the logical next steps to return equipment or facilities to good working order.  This position will work cross functionally with external business partners (vendors) to ensure that all operations are meeting Peli BioThermal requirements.

 

Primary duties and responsibilities:

  • Carry out routine scheduled maintenance and unplanned repairs to facility and production equipment.
  • Respond to all breakdowns and diagnose breakdown problems.
  • Install new/replacement parts and ensure equipment is working efficiently and safely.
  • Make recommendations to reduce machine downtime and cycle times.
  • Escalate machine breakdowns to appropriate managers if not resolved within the agreed timeline.
  • Research suitable solutions and estimate costs and timelines for machine and equipment breakdowns and improvements.
  • Arrange procurement of tools, equipment, parts, and components relating, but not limited to facilities and production equipment.
  • Collaborate with Pelican BioThermal Engineering, contractors, and outside vendors to carry out planned and unplanned maintenance and repairs of facilities and equipment.
  • Assist with the installation of new equipment as required.
  • Create and maintain preventative maintenance procedures through company’s document change procedure.
  • Record, analyze and interpret data for planned maintenance and OEE measures from downtime records.
  • Liaise and communicate with all departments, customers and other engineering and production functions, attend meetings on site as required.
  • Maintain general housekeeping and safe work environment. Coordinates safety and facility work with Supply Chain and Production staff.
  • Performs monthly inspections on fire extinguishers, smoke alarms, and other safety-related items. First responder for facilities related downtime, coordinates with appropriate staff or external resources to support.  Assists with designing and fabricating jigs and fixtures for use in production if required.
  • Follows all applicable Local, State and Federal regulations while performing job duties.
  • Follows company policies and practices as outlined in the Employee Handbook, AWAIR and/or applicable employment agreement.
  • Follows safety guidelines including Personal Protective Equipment and Lock-out/Tag-out procedures.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned including, but not limited to all facilities related tasks and work on special projects as required or assigned by the Operations Manager.

 

Job requirements:

  • Associate's degree or equivalent specific experience related to industrial equipment maintenance.
  • 2 - 5 years of relevant experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • High level of mechanical aptitude and experience troubleshooting and repairing a broad range of equipment and systems including electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic including a Basic Understanding of: 
      • LOTO and machine safety
      • NFPA 70E and Arc Flash Safety
      • Electrical Controls for Machines and Relay Ladder Logic
      • Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)
      • Variable Speed Drives (VFDs) and motor controls
      • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics for machine controls.
      • Ability to diagnose and repair electrical controls machine faults.
  • Must have basic computer skills.
  • Must be willing and able to certify in forklift and scissor lift operation.
  • Ability to cover multiple shifts as required by business needs.
  • Must have the ability to complete assignments within the time frame specified by Operations Management.
  • Must be able to interact effectively and cooperatively with employees at all levels.
  • Must be able to operate in a fast-paced organization and handle multiple projects simultaneously.

 

Bonus points for:

  • Degree, apprenticeship, or certificate in an applicable technical field (i.e. industrial maintenance, electrical, mechanical, pneumatics).
  • PLC and Electrical installation, basic electrical system knowledge, maintenance and troubleshooting experience highly preferred.
  • Ability to understand and create Engineering/Quality documents preferred.  
  • Some knowledge of cGMP, NFPA, OSHA, or Life Safety; Experience working in a pharma or medical device manufacturing environment.
  • Experience operating a forklift and scissor lift preferred. 
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and digital drawing specifications preferred.
  • Experience using preventative maintenance software systems.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word & Excel.
