Position at Berkeley Research Group, LLC
BRG's antitrust litigation experience includes analyzing claims of price fixing; examining the competitive effects of alleged actual or attempted monopolization, predatory pricing, anticompetitive tying or bundling, exclusionary practices, and abuse of a dominant position; and investigating other competition issues such as those related to alleged price discrimination. As a PhD Economist with a keen interest in addressing real-world applied economics questions, including in the areas of Antitrust and competition, you get to work with some of the biggest and brightest experts in industry.
Responsibilities:
This position requires a highly motivated problem solver with robust analytical ability, strong organizational and writing skills, and a desire to collaborate as an integral part of our project teams. The work will involve both execution and oversight of litigation engagement work streams that may be either quantitative or qualitative in nature, with responsibilities such as:
  • Exploratory data analysis, model building, and regression analysis using languages such as Stata, R, Python, or SAS.
  • Leveraging analytical tools to creatively and efficiently extract insights from messy data.
    Assisting in the production and development of research summaries, expert reports, and the presentation of findings.
  • Conducting economic and industry research while analyzing client materials in order to outline case issues.
  • Serve as a subject-matter expert in economics generally and empirical IO specifically. Work with team members and stakeholders to broaden access to and understanding of economics-based capabilities.

Qualifications:
  • PhD in Economics, preferably with a focus in Industrial Organization, Microeconomics, or Econometrics from a reputable university;
  • Minimum three (3+) years of previous experience as an economist or econometrician in a consulting or advisory firm;
  • Ability to explain complex concepts to non-economists and clients;
  • Experience in Antitrust and/or competition economics is required;
  • Experience in application of econometric modeling techniques is required;
  • Strong record of technical expertise through past case work and/or publications that you have authored;
  • Antitrust experience as it relates to multi-sided platform markets is high preferred;
  • Proven capability with MS Excel and analytical software/relational database program(s) (e.g., SAS, Stata, MS SQL Server, R, MS Access, SPSS). A desire to expand on those capabilities; and
  • Excellent communication, managerial and analytical skills, as well as leadership skills.

Salary range: $185,000 to $300,000 per year.
