The Senior Manager of Research & Development (R&D) will oversee and coordinate the daily operations of highly skilled engineering, professional, and pilot plant staff while ensuring that company objectives and goals are met.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Task assignment, development plans, performance management, hiring decisions, policy adherence as well as the day-to-day support of managing a team.
- Provide general guidance to the pilot plant leadership to operate and sustain pilot plant equipment to meet R&D project requirements and support production needs.
- Drive continuous improvement for existing pilot plant equipment and expand capabilities to support R&D needs.
- Lead the development of new or improved products, materials, and processes that solve problems for internal and/or external customers.
- Support engineers in monitoring the business and technical environment to anticipate technology opportunities Initiate, define, and lead technical projects to address these opportunities.
- Build and cultivate relationships with partners in other ATI Business Units to foster collaboration on new business opportunities. Participate in ATI's Technology Council to share technical ideas, solve common problems, and exchange best practices.
- Create and maintain an environment in which open innovation partnerships and an entrepreneurial mindset are promoted and new business opportunities are incubated.
- Apply CI Tools to improve Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, and Costs (SPQRC), and meet goals utilizing plan-do-check-act (PDCA) principles.
- Administer and manage the budget for assigned R&D projects.
- Provide periodic updates on R&D efforts to executive leadership.
Requirements
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Materials Engineering, Metallurgy, or other engineering degree
- Six-year minimum experience in metallurgical processing and specification requirements
- 2 years of leadership experience
- Experience in aerospace materials
Preferred Qualifications
- MS or PhD Degree
- Experience with metallurgical processing of Ni, Fe, Co, and Ti based alloys.
Skills and Competencies:
- Knowledge of metallurgical processing of Fe-based, Co-based, Ti-based, and Ni-based alloys.
- Experience leading cross-disciplinary teams.
- Knowledge of production, operations, and materials planning, practices, and processes.

- Organizational agility to work across departments, plant sites, and business units to develop and execute technical development projects.
