Senior Manager Plant Operations

Who we are looking for:

We are currently looking for a Senior Manager Plant Operations to be based out of our Harvey, IL facility. Reporting to the Director of Operations, this person will be responsible for leading the Operations Production Managers, who directly manage the Manufacturing Supervisors, with an emphasis on teamwork, continuous improvement, and have full ownership for the safety, quality, delivery, and productivity performance of all mill operations.

 The ideal candidate will have relevant leadership experience, a bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or related field (MBA preferred), with experience in Manufacturing Operations. Experience in lean manufacturing or business system-based company is strongly preferred.

 What you’ll do:

  • Manage Production Managers and act as escalation point for operational issues.
  • Align with the Lean group to provide operational support for continuous improvement and participate in kaizen teams and assume kaizen team leader position as necessary.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and team with appropriate support functions to develop and implement solutions.
  • Implement improvement plans and ensure SDP and operations related projects are focused on, providing appropriate levels of direction and involvement.
  • Lead problem-solving activities within teams for year over year process improvements initiatives.
  • Ensure Kanban and production plan compliance.
  • Lead the Atkore Business System and Lean Daily Management within their teams and utilize Lean tools for improvement projects focused on Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost.
  • Develop plans and implement strategies to improve the engagement, alignment, and performance of the team members within the value stream.
  • Lead by example and live the Atkore Values of Accountability, Teamwork, Integrity, Respect and Excellence.

    What you’ll bring:

    • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or related field (MBA preferred).
    • At least ten years of manufacturing experience in a union environment, including management experience (mill operation a plus).
    • Experience with standard process routing, budget development and supporting a company’s P&L goals.
    • Solid verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to make independent and sound decisions.
    • Must possess sound interpersonal skills.
    • Experience as a change agent in an organization.
    • In-depth knowledge of lean manufacturing principles (Toyota Production Systems).
    • Experience implementing Manufacturing Strategy.

     Within 3 months, you’ll:

    • Complete your Atkore immersion program and understand how your job will help deliver Atkore’s strategy.
    • Start supervising your direct team on daily requirements and managing without guidance.
    • Understand safety, quality, delivery, and cost opportunities and start prioritizing improvement needs.
    • Gain an understanding of our products and processes.
    • Follow and modify leaders standard work for daily, weekly, and monthly requirements.

    Within 6 months, you’ll:

    • Ensure Kanban and production plan compliance.
    • Lead problem-solving activities across within teams for year over year process improvement initiatives.
    • Collaborate with counterparts to develop local strategy to achieve business objectives and financial targets.
    • Provide effective associate relations within plant operations by ensuring employment practices are fair and consistent.
    • Identify ways to strengthen the team’s commitment to Atkore’s core values of Accountability, Teamwork, Integrity, Respect and Excellence.

       Within 12 months, you’ll:

      • Implement improvement plans and ensure Strategy Deployment Process (SDP) and operations related projects are focused on.
      • Oversee Operations metrics/KPIs and drive to meet targets.
      • Assist the Plant Manager and Controller with the development of the operations budget and ensure budgetary commitments are met.
      • Have meaningful performance conversations with your direct reports.
      • Partner with Planning and Scheduling departments to ensure alignment between Operations and Sales, Inventory and Operations Planning process accuracy and production expectations.
