Summary
The Senior Manager of Infrastructure Core Services (ICS) will lead a talented team of technical infrastructure professionals accountable for the lifecycle management and support of NYPA's ongoing digital initiatives and strategies. This role is a critical part of a larger cross-functional team of Architects, Network Support, Incident Management, Cyber, and others to ensure resiliency and availability of key NYPA digital IT assets and services.
The Senior Manager will have operational responsibilities for NYPA's latest hyper-converged and cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/Google) and Enterprise storage and compute offerings across hosting environments. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated people management experience, along with technical leadership managing enterprise infrastructure and cloud platforms.

Responsibilities
- Identify, recommend, develop, implement, administer, and support cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of ICS operations including servers (Windows and Linux), SAN storage, server virtualization and cloud technologies (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS), and backup/recovery systems.
- Provide operational support and standard operating procedures (SOP) for all Core Infrastructure and Disaster Recovery systems.
- Use metrics to make proactive data-driven decisions and ensure 24/7 real-time performance and monitoring.
- Develop, manage and utilize infrastructure automation, capabilities using latest Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) pipeline techniques to drive continuous improvement, standardization, and service delivery.
- Manage hosting environments including hardware deployments, asset tracking, rack layouts, cloud migration and consolidation projects, and strategic hosting initiatives.
- Manage vendors and contractor relationships and communicate service impacting work in and around NYPA digital hosting environments.
- Define / maintain an IT operations model that meets the business’ strategy, goals, regulatory requirements, and SLA targets.
- Assist and support NYPA remote sites with infrastructure design, backups, and business continuity processes (BCP).
- Ensure NYPA ICS team members are up to date with leading edge innovations and adaptation of new technologies including automation to streamline repetitive tasks and self-service delivery.
- Lead technical team and serve as an escalation point for team in support, problem and resolution activities, and root cause analysis documentation in compliance with Incident Response and Change Management Policies.
- Manage employees including performance management, salary administration, succession planning, and workload balancing. Identify and recommend solutions to modify staff to meet NYPA needs.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong knowledge designing and implementing disaster recovery solutions, using Microsoft server, and clustering technologies, enterprise storage and SAN solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with staff, vendors, executives, and peers to design, implement, and manage resilient / highly available on-prem and cloud-based IT solutions to meet emerging business needs.
- Highly collaborative with the ability to build successful relationships across a wide range of IT teams, business unit leads, and senior management.
- Demonstrated ability to motivate, mentor, and guide staff members, developing each team member’s technical and professional skills, and deal with challenging personnel issues demonstrating patience and understanding of team dynamics.
- Knowledge of ITIL principles and best practices around service and asset management (ITSM, ITAM).
- Systems automation and use of configuration management tools such as vRealize Automation, Salt, Ansible, Chef, others.
- Managing and implementing Enterprise SANs and other storage solutions (Commvault, SAN, HCP, NAS, Brocade, HCI VSAN).
- Designing and managing cloud infrastructure solutions on Azure / AWS / Google and VMware platforms.
- Managing Windows and Linux server environments including patching.
- Infrastructure monitoring and telemetry/metrics using tools like vRealize Operations, Splunk, CloudWatch, OpsManager, Elasticsearch, others.
- Strong working knowledge and experience managing, configuring, and implementing core infrastructure and cloud Technologies.
- Working knowledge of databases, networking, and web servers.
- Working knowledge of source control tools like Azure DevOps, Git, or SVN.
Education, Experience and Certifications
Bachelor’s Degree required; Business, Information Management, or a related field preferred.
Minimum 7 years experience in managing hosting environments
Minimum 3 years leading or managing technical infrastructure and operations teams
Minimum 3 years designing, implementing, and managing cloud infrastructure and services
Preferred:
- 15+ years experience in the Information Technology field
- Experience with Datacenter Cloud Migrations
- Electric Utility industry experience

The New York Power Authority is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation. The target salary range for this position is: $150,540 - $201,000. The salary offered will be determined based on the successful candidates’ relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
