Job Summary:
The Arizona Attorney General’s Office is seeking a Senior Litigation and Training Counsel. The incumbent of the position will report directly to the Duty, Training and Advice Unit Chief Counsel for the Child and Family Protection Division, Protective Services Section working directly and in conjunction with the Protective Services Section (PSS) Chief Counsels and Unit Chief Counsels. This position is primarily responsible for coordinating and conducting training of PSS attorneys, volunteers, law clerks, interns and externs, legal staff and the client agency. This position will also coordinate policy, rules and procedure changes, project implementation and on special assignments as requested.
Remote Options: This position may be eligible for Remote Work two days a week.
Job Duties:
This position will assume responsibility primarily on behalf of and in representation of the Department of Child Safety (DCS). The responsibilities include, but are not limited to, legal representation and advice to the client agency. The Senior Litigation & Training Counsel position may be responsible for managing and litigating a case load and assisting other attorneys in managing and litigating their caseloads. This position may also work with other Sections within the Division on similar responsibilities.
This position will comply with laws, rules and office policies and procedures applicable to the performance of the job and perform additional tasks as assigned by supervising personnel. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of legal experience, including extensive litigation experience. Excellent writing and communication skills are required. Experience in training and mentorship is preferred. Applicants must also have the ability to work collaboratively with others.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge and understanding of applicable case law, legislation, statutes, rules and regulations of state and federal courts as well as administrative tribunals.
Knowledge of legal techniques, terminology, court systems and rules of procedure, rules of evidence and the formats utilized in the preparation of legal documents and correspondence.
Knowledge of juvenile law, particularly dependency and termination of parental rights, general litigation and advocacy and trial/appellate procedure.
SKILL
Significant litigation experience. Skilled in the ability to appropriately incorporate all current state laws, federal regulations, administrative agency and in-office policies and procedures, as well as rules of court.
Skilled in verbal and written communication, oral advocacy.
Skilled in analyzing and resolving complex legal issues.
Strong inter-personal skills.
Skilled in training (particularly attorneys, legal staff and client agencies) skilled in creation and development of training materials.
Skilled in training presentations and various virtual technology platforms.
