Job description

Title: Senior Lighting Specialist 
Company: Tampa Electric Company 
State and City: Florida - Tampa
Shift: 8 Hr. X 5 Days

 

 

Position Concept:

The Senior Lighting will run a crew consisting of themselves and one apprentice (or another Senior if apprentice is off).  The position is designed to offset the need of contractors and bring the work internal.  Perform various aspects of troubleshooting and maintenance of Tampa Electric’s outdoor lighting systems.  Work on energized systems in all service areas of the Tampa Electric system.  Lighting Specialist must perform all duties following the Safe Work Practices and procedures set forth by the company.  This job will utilize all the skills of a Lighting Specialist along with broadening one’s baseline knowledge of SLV, FSU’s, new construction installations and machinery. 

 

Major Tasks:

  • Install or replace 16’ post top poles for new construction, maintenance, or trouble tickets.
  • Completion of memo tickets (climbs, UG repairs, service repull/repair (2/4), and locating)
  • Troubleshoot, repair, remove and/or install all types of area, street, premium lights, and associated equipment.
  • Read, understand, and navigate using Tampa Electric’s grid system.
  • Operate a Mobile Data Terminal (MDT) according to prescribed procedures and stay current with all MDT and PCAD trainings.
  • Work out of a bucket truck and/or use a double ladder, or an “A” frame ladder to perform a task of repairing or changing-out a fixture.
  • Handle and lift a maximum of 50 pounds (light and bracket)
  • Run new, replace, or repair overhead/underground services.
  • Conduct an overhead/underground line patrol including lifting lids of URD equipment and occasional hand digging to locate underground problems.
  • Communicate using the Tampa Electric radio system.
  • Accurately complete “paperwork” according to established company procedures, including trainings, safety proactive (Cority), and all other company-wide initiatives and goals.

 

Requirements:

  • Must be a current Lighting Repairman to qualify for Senior Repairman
  • Training required: Lighting Repairman, app Lineman 1 and 2, Itron Network Lighting Controller, 80 hours working training scenarios in test yard.
  • Must pass field and written tests to demonstrate competency.
  • Ability to trailer equipment and materials to jobsite.
  • Work on energized equipment safely and efficiently to maintain the lighting infrastructure. 
  • Must have a Class A Commercial Driver License with all required endorsements; must have and maintain a safe driving record at all times
  • Must maintain compliance with company policies.
  • Must demonstrate quality people skills when working with customers and co-workers.
  • Possibility to drive up to 100 miles on an eight-hour shift.
  • May be required to drive a five-ton bucket truck.

 

Physical requirements:

  • Strength – Moderate work, lifting 50-pounds
  • Climbing – Required to use a 30-foot extension ladder.
  • Climbing – Frequently in and out of the truck bed and bucket
  • Bending – Frequently to retrieve tools, open equipment, etc.
  • Kneeling – Frequently to replace fuses in hand holes and pad mount transformers.
  • Walking – Frequently from the truck to light and back, in parking lots, residences, etc.
  • Driving – Frequently from light to light
