MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Reassignment: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as a Senior Librarian (Technical Processes).
Eligible List Appointment: Candidates must be reachable on the Civil Service eligible list for this title. If you are on the Civil Service eligible list for this title, you may receive a canvass letter. You must complete and return it as instructed on the letter.
55b/c Appointment: This position is eligible for 55b/c designation and is subject to verification of applicant eligibility. Candidates must possess a current 55b/c eligibility letter and the following minimum qualifications:
• For Librarian 1: have a master's degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association
• For Senior Librarian (Technical Procedures): have a master's degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association and two years of full-time post-degree professional librarian experience in a medium to large library environment where your primary duties includes: acquiring library materials; acquiring, classifying and describing government documents from a federal or state agency for addition to the library's collection; working with digital content, processes, policies, storage and access; or cataloging library materials using one or more of the following metadata standards: RDA, Dublin Core, MODS, or METS.
Provisional Appointment to Librarian 1: In the absence of an eligible list with three or more candidates willing to accept a position, a temporary provisional appointment may be considered. For provisional appointment, candidates must have a master's degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association. Provisional candidates must take the examination for Librarian 1 when it is next offered, and must be reachable on the resulting eligible list to maintain employment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Preference may be given to candidates who have previous experience with WorldShare Interlibrary Loan, ILLiad, Docline, CDLC ILLeForm, DueNorth, or SEAL is preferred.
Duties Description The New York State Education Department's (NYSED) Office of Cultural Education is seeking candidates for five (5) Senior Librarian (Technical Processes) positions in the New York State Library. Under the supervision of the assigned Associate Librarian (Technical Processes), the Senior Librarian (Technical Processes) is responsible for specialized cataloging, preservation, digitization, and/or computer application work in the New York State Library. Duties of these positions include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Expand access to the Research Library's Collections through activities which may include interlibrary loan, digitization, cataloging, preservation, and acquisitions;
• Prioritize materials to be scanned, preserved, and made publicly accessible in collaboration with Technical Services and Public Services Unit;
• Create metadata for Research Library Collections, which may include new acquisitions, special collections, born-digital documents, and scanned publications and documents;??
• Adhere to established standards, regulations, and laws related to library classification, cataloging, collection management, copyright, and preservation;
• Maintain a variety of equipment and software applications to support technical services operations, which may include equipment and software to support digitization, digital preservation, resource sharing, and cataloging. Identify new technology and systems to improve the quality and efficiency of workflow;???
• In collaboration with the Technical Services unit, maintain documentation of procedures and policies;?
• Train, supervise, and evaluate support staff;
• Collaborate with colleagues across the NYS Library and the state to support access to library resources;
• Participate in and provide professional development. Contribute to a community of practice and collaborative learning;
• Perform other tasks, as assigned.
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
These will be a contingent permanent appointments or a temporary provisional appointments. Provisional candidates must take the examination for Senior Librarian (Technical Processes) or Librarian 1, dependent on appointing title, when it is next offered and must be reachable on the resulting eligible list to maintain employment. For 55b/c appointment, candidates must possess the minimum qualifications, a current 55b/c eligibility letter and is subject to verification of applicant eligibility. Promotions and transfers may change appointees' negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Verification of degree and experience will be required at the time of interview for all candidates. These positions will require 5% in-state travel. The work schedule for these positions includes flexible hours Monday through Friday, between the 8:00am to 5:00pm.
These positions may be filled as a traineeship. The starting salaries for this position are outlined below. For current New York State employees, salary is based on the candidate's salary at the time of hire. Candidates appointed at the trainee level will be required to successfully complete the traineeship to advance to the full performance level title and salary.
• $53,546 (Trainee 1/Librarian 1) - NS equated to SG-15)
• $59,724 (Trainee 2/Librarian 2)- NS equated to SG-17)
• $66,527 (Full Performance level/Senior Librarian Technical Procedures SG-19)
This position leads to a maximum salary of $84,496 based on annual performance advances and traineeship advances.
