Overview:
HKS is seeking an experienced Senior Job Captain to join our Commercial Interiors team.
A recognized leader who possesses exceptional design and technical abilities. Provides technical leadership and acts as an advisor on projects. Possesses strong communication skills, a flexible attitude, ability to solve problems creatively and ability to foster and manage effective client relationships. Endorses the firm’s values by personally influencing client service, innovation and communication. Acts as subject matter expert for technical solutions.
Responsibilities:
  • Facilitates effective execution of project design and the delivery of implementation documents
  • Leads the process of defining project work plans and developing and managing the production schedule, including effectively defining and meeting deadlines
  • Utilizes creative thinking to achieve innovative solutions and develop solutions to technical and design detail problems
  • May supervise the preparation of documents by project team, including verifying implementation documents conform to QA/QC and HKS standards, best practice and quality expectations
  • Collaborates in the development of interiors concepts based on client vision, desire and architectural concept
  • Manages the technical resolution and coordination for a defined portion of a project
  • Prepares client presentations and present design concepts and drawings
  • Maintains open communication with client and provides guidance through projects
  • Coordinates with PM, clients, public agencies, consultants and contractors to incorporate engineering systems, to respond to requests for information, clarifications and modifications and to obtain approvals and adjust scope of services
  • Communicates with other disciplines, product representatives, furniture dealers, fabricators and contractors to incorporate all information into project requirements
  • Performs product research; assists project designers with materials and systems evaluation to make proper selections
  • Develops code analysis and confirms code and zoning requirements for assigned segment of project are met
  • Participates in the selection and presentation of furniture, fixtures and equipment (FF&E), color palettes and lighting
  • Coordinates with project team on review and approval of final interior and exterior programming, design development documents, construction documents, furnishings selections and purchases, RFIs and submittals
  • Leads team meetings to discuss project issues, technical issues and coordination with other disciplines
  • Attends on-site visits, field reviews and project meetings and documents these visits as appropriate
  • May lead consultant team work sessions and prepare meeting minutes for consultant coordination meetings
  • Develops, recognizes, recruits and grows diverse talent
  • Manages conflict effectively and encourages a healthy team environment
  • Assists PIC/PM with the development and management of project job costs, budget and resourcing projections
  • Collaborates in managing project to satisfy requirements from budget and schedule perspective while delivering a quality work product
  • Understands the financial indicators used by the firm to track project performance
  • Supports and may lead the business development process by identifying new opportunities, marketing current clients for repeat business and assisting with proposals, budgets and schedules
  • May lead proposal preparation process and participates in negotiation of scope and fees on contracts
Qualifications:
  • Accredited professional degree in Interior Design, Architecture or equivalent in education or experience
  • NCIDQ certification or architectural license strongly preferred
  • Typically 15+ years of experience
  • Sustainable design accreditation preferred
  • Proficiency in software such as Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam Revu, Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketchup and InDesign preferred
  • Working knowledge of furniture, fixtures and equipment (FF&E) software preferred
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of sustainability and integrated design guidelines
  • Strong knowledge of architectural building systems, accessibility guidelines and QA/QC process
  • Strong knowledge of building codes and ability to research and incorporate into technical documents
  • Experience with FF&E to carry out design intent
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Ability to communicate in a clear, concise and professional manner both verbally and in writing
