This position is located at the Energy & Environmental Research Center (EERC), an international leader in energy and environmental research, conducting projects for clients throughout the United States and the world. We are looking for confident, scientifically trained, and market-oriented individuals to contribute to the success of the organization by performing one or more of the following functions:
- Administer all production, stage, and test servers as a vital member of the software development team.
- Ensure reliable, secure, and efficient server systems.
- Purchase, assemble, and configure server equipment as needed.
- Install security updates, fix hardware and software problems related to servers, and install necessary software and services.
- Review application, system, and server log files; provide first-line troubleshooting for application/server problems; perform system monitoring; assist with testing of changes and enhancements.
- Administer user access to systems.
- Maintain reliable server backups and restoration.
- Stay up to date on developments in server technologies.
- Advise on future purchases for the EERC, both on premises and in the cloud.
- Work in conjunction with IT team to maintain a consistent server structure across all servers.
- Administer database systems used by the EERC and UND for financial management and for research projects.
- Maintain proper security and backup for database systems; provide restoration as necessary.
- Develop and implement appropriate procedures and standards for database management.
- Stay up to date on developments in database technologies.
- Advise cloud administrator on database servers in the cloud.

Required Competencies- Organizational/prioritization ability.

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 5 years hands-on experience as a Windows Server System Administrator or Microsoft Cloud Administrator.

Preferred Qualifications- Experience in deploying and managing Microsoft SQL Server.
- Experience configuring and maintaining IIS web server/Azure app service.
- Experience with maintaining system and data backups/restoration.
- Experience in configuring production systems in a cloud environment (Azure preferred).
- Experience in migrating on-prem workloads to cloud.
- Experience with deploying and managing virtualized environments (VMs)
- Experience maintaining a failover cluster.
