Job description

Tetra Tech Water Division is looking for a Hydraulic Engineering expert for our Columbus, Ohio office. Candidates must be comfortable performing at a high level in a seller-doer role and have an established client following.

The position will include technical work as well as project management and business development responsibilities. Potential projects include floodplain management (levee design, certification and inspection, floodplain mapping, and restoration of floodplain connectivity), dam safety (probably maximum flood analysis, dam break analysis, inundation mapping and preparation of emergency action plans), river and floodplain restoration, watershed management, and determination/mitigation of water resources project impacts.

Primary clients include Ohio DNR, NRCS, local municipalities, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

 

Your Role:

The position will perform hydraulic modeling and hydraulic design of facilities including levees, channels, in-stream and floodplain restoration features such as bioengineered projects and levee setbacks, culverts/bridges, bioengineered bank protection measures, grade controls, and spillways. The position will also perform floodplain, inundation, and hydrologic studies, hydrologic analyses, and sediment transport and scour analyses to support water resources projects. Work also includes the preparation of project reports and making oral presentations; managing a multidisciplinary team including geomorphologists, biologists, economists, and planners, as well as other hydraulic and water resources engineers; and managing projects and task orders to technical and financial success.

The position will supervise and delegate work to junior engineers and support staff as necessary to manage specific hydraulic engineering tasks within larger complex projects. The position will also contribute to business development, marketing, and proposal preparation efforts.

 

Qualifications:

  • BS in Civil Engineering plus approximately 15+ years of experience in hydraulics and hydrology; a master's degree with specialization in hydraulics is preferred
  • Professional Engineer license required (OH license required within 6 months of hire)
  • Experience with 1-D steady and unsteady modeling such as HEC-RAS, HEC-GeoRAS, and similar
  • Experience with hydrologic modeling such as HEC-HMS, HEC-GeoHMS, and SWIMM as well as statistical analysis of flow record
  • Experience with 2-D modeling (RAS-2D, FLO-2D, ADH, SRH-2D and similar)
  • Experience with Sediment Transport modeling (HEC-RAS, HEC-6T, SIAM and similar)
  • Experience and knowledge of FEMA requirements (including C/LOMR processing)
  • Solid technical writing and communication skills
  • Experience with reservoir operations modeling (HEC-ResSim, RiverWare) a plus
  • Experience with 3-D computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling such as FLOW-3D a plus
  • Experience with geomorphology a plus
  • Certified Floodplain Manager a plus
  • Some travel/field work is required
