As a member of our medical collections team, your ability to communicate, persuade and convey payment urgency is critical to the overall success of our company. You'll consult directly with our customers to identify reasons for late payments and set up payment plans that are mutually agreeable. Your work will not only impact the bottom line, but it will also make a difference in the lives of our customers, greatly reducing their financial burden. As a Senior Hospital Collections Representative , you will work with your team members to help identify and resolve issues and serve as a resource for day-to-day operations. Your primary role will be to contact and consult with patients and/or their families who have outstanding medical bills. While ensuring that payment is received for these bills is important, you will also need to provide assistance and support to these individuals as they may be dealing with a medical or financial crisis.

This position is full-time. Employees are required to have the flexibility to work an 8-hour shift during our normal business hours of 7:00am OR 8:00am - 3:30pm AZ time. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime.

We offer 3 weeks of on-the-job training. The hours during training will be 7:00am to 3:30pm AZ time, Monday - Friday.

*All Telecommuters will be required to adhere to UnitedHealth Group's Telecommuter Policy.

Primary Responsibilities:

+ Serve as a resource or Subject Matter Expert (SME) for other team members or internal customers to help identify and resolve issues.

+ Handle escalated and complex customer issues, helping to provide resolution and settlement of account

+ Contacts customers through a variety of methods (e-mail, form letters and phone calls) to discuss, negotiate payment and resolve outstanding medical bill accounts and balances

+ Obtains agreement, after discussion with customer, on potential balance payoff and/or payment terms within stated level of authority and guideline limits

+ Performs research and documents on various computer systems customer information regarding current status, payment expectations, notes of conversations and other relevant information

+ Prepares and submits reports to internal management on status of outstanding medical bills and proposed/planned payment settlement details

+ May in some instances transfer settlement of account and related information to external collection agencies and remains in contact with them regarding further payment activity.

Required Qualifications:

+ 2+ years of experience with Medical Collections.

+ Experience with identifying root causes to determine appropriate actions and outcomes

+ Ability to completely and concisely summarize important details in account notes

+ Basic Proficiency with Windows PC applications and Microsoft Office (create, edit, format Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

+ Must be 18 years of age OR older

+ Ability to work the shift Monday to Friday 7:00am OR 8:00am to 3:30pm AZ Time, including the flexibility to work occasional overtime given the business need

Preferred Qualifications:

+ Background in a medical/healthcare setting

+ Direct healthcare data collection experience

Telecommuting Requirements:

+ Reside within CA, AZ, NV, ID, OR, WA, UT, MT, CO, NM, and TX

+ Ability to keep all company sensitive documents secure (if applicable)

+ Required to have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privacy

+ Must live in a location that can receive a UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed internet connection or leverage an existing high-speed internet service

California, Colorado, Nevada, Washington Residents Only: The hourly range for California / Colorado / Nevada / Washington residents is $19.47 - $38.08 per hour.
