ABOUT MICHIGAN CENTRAL

Michigan Central is a market-leading hub for advancing new technologies and programs that address barriers to greater social, economic and physical mobility. Michigan Central is both a convening place and a call-to-action—for city, regional, and international inventors and investors; academics and entrepreneurs; civil society voices and government leaders; and business owners and corporate partners—to advance a more sustainable, equitable future through a collaborative approach to mobility solutions.

Building on Detroit's rich history as an engine of change, the transformative Michigan Central project aims to strengthen the city's competitive advantages while inspiring collective action on the most pressing global challenges at the intersection of mobility and society worldwide.

THE OPPORTUNITY:

Michigan Central is seeking a Senior Graphic Designer to contribute to the design and narrative development efforts at Michigan Central. This role will be responsible for creating high-quality design assets that help elevate Michigan Central's brand. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of branding principles and the capability to adapt designs across various platforms. As the Senior Graphic Designer, your primary focus is to swiftly and effectively create visually compelling presentation decks with diverse project requirements. You are comfortable collaborating with internal stakeholders to understand project requirements, objectives, and target audiences, and can easily translate ideas into compelling visual concepts and designs. You take initiative and thrive in fast-paced environments, ensuring that graphics and production requests are driven with excellent attention to detail while meeting critical timelines. The Senior Graphic Designer role is an excellent opportunity for someone with a range of design skills and a deep interest in architecture, city building, and storytelling. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work across the organization, deep-diving into various work streams and projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

As Michigan Central's in-house Senior Graphic Designer, you will:

  • Collaborate across Michigan Central's business units to develop consistent, compelling, and engaging material for internal and external communications, building a library of collateral
  • Design high-caliber presentations using a range of mediums including Google Slides, PowerPoint, and InDesign
  • Design and develop creative concepts, layouts, animation, and visual assets for various needs including social media posts, web banners, and print material
  • Assist in developing and implementing company brand standards, ensuring effectiveness and consistency across all design projects
  • Maintain organized design files, and contribute to the development and maintenance of Michigan Central's design library
  • Deliver ad hoc design requests from the leadership team or other senior staff

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

  • You have a Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or a related field
  • You have 5+ years of experience designing graphic assets for internal or external clients and can provide a strong portfolio showcasing recent design projects and styles across different mediums
  • You have proven expertise in designing and developing visually appealing presentation decks and graphics using industry-standard software tools, with a keen eye for detail, creativity, and the ability to effectively convey complex information clearly and concisely
  • You can manage and prioritize concurrent projects, ensuring that deadlines are met without compromising on the quality of output
  • You have expert proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, Acrobat, Premier Pro
  • You fluidly and effectively translate ideas presented into easily digestible graphics with supporting narratives
  • You proactively problem-solve and strategically respond to unforeseen challenges.
  • You can adeptly interface at all levels of an organization, both internally and externally

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

Please submit an updated graphic design portfolio showcasing samples of slides/decks, design layouts, booklets, posters, banners, logos, and illustrations in a single PDF file or a web-based portfolio.
