ABOUT FINALFORMS
BC Technologies DBA FinalForms is a bootstrapped, client-first EdTech company with a strong code of ethics and a five-year roadmap for revolutionizing K-12 school district data management. We have a deep product that we configure with precision and care for each new client. The upfront investment in quality pays dividends in reduced support and peerless customer satisfaction and loyalty.
  • 6,700 Schools. 40 States. 53 Employees. 99.1% Client Retention.
  • Bootstrapped. Positive Cash Flow. Exponential growth. No "Board of Investors" calling the shots.

Our culture is one of service. Our leaders serve our employees, who serve our schools, who serve our communities.
Engineers & Designers are in highly autonomous positions. Initial onboarding requires 2-4 weeks in-office in Boulder, CO. Mastery may require 1 year of hybrid work in the Denver/Boulder area. After that, engineers and designers are free to relocate within the U.S.
CULTURE
Our unique culture focuses on our vision, mission, and values in an atmosphere that maximizes personal freedom. While regular team communication is scheduled and structured in on-site or virtual environments, the majority of the commitment is unstructured. We encourage our team members to balance their investment of time with their family, health, community, and personal endeavors.
ABOUT THE POSITION
FinalForms is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Ruby on Rails Front-End Engineer with a passion for building great user experiences to join our exceptional engineering team. As a Front-End Engineer, you will play a key role in creating and maintaining our web application interfaces. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including the CPO, product managers, and back-end engineers, to deliver great user experiences.
You will also play a crucial role in shaping best practices within our engineering organization. You will have the opportunity to mentor other frontend engineers, make important technical decisions, and establish the standard for our user experience. This is a unique opportunity to assume ownership and responsibility from the CPO / Founder for the user experience of a flagship product.
Responsibilities:
Front-End Engineering:
  • Develop and maintain front-end components of web applications using Ruby on Rails framework, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Implement responsive designs and ensure compatibility.
  • Collaborate with designers to translate wireframes and mockups into functional user interfaces.
  • Work closely with back-end engineers to integrate front-end components with the server-side infrastructure.
  • Conduct thorough testing and debugging of front-end components to identify and fix any issues or bugs.
  • Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to ensure high code quality and maintainability.
  • Stay up to date with the latest web development trends and best practices to continuously improve the front-end development process.
  • Collaborate with product managers to understand user requirements and provide technical insights for feature implementation.
  • Assist in estimating project timelines and contribute to the overall project planning and execution process.
  • Ensure accessibility standards and compliance with web accessibility guidelines (WCAG 2.1, ADA)

User Interface Design:
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand project goals, target audience, and user requirements and expectations.
  • Develop effective and visually appealing UI designs that align with brand guidelines and project objectives.
  • When appropriate, create wireframes, prototypes, or interactive mockups to effectively communicate design concepts and gather feedback.
  • Conduct usability tests and incorporate user feedback into design iterations.

User Experience Development:
  • Employ user-centered design principles to craft intuitive and seamless user experiences.
  • Implement animations, transitions, and micro-interactions to enhance user engagement.
  • Ensure cross-browser and cross-device compatibility, while optimizing performance for optimal user experience.

Collaboration and Communication:
  • Collaborate closely with product managers and engineers to understand project requirements and deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in written form, to articulate design decisions and technical implementations.
  • Participate in design and code reviews, providing constructive feedback to enhance the overall quality of the product.
  • Stay up to date with the latest UI, UX, and front-end development trends and technologies, and evaluate their potential for implementation in our projects.

Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in front-end development for Ruby on Rails including a portfolio of work. (Suggested 5+ years)
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Strong understanding of user-centered design principles, usability testing, and user research methodologies.
  • Strong understanding of front-end development principles, including responsive design, cross-browser compatibility, and accessibility standards.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative team environment.
  • Solid understanding of software development practices, including version control (Git) and Agile methodologies.
  • Proficiency with front-end technologies (HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript).
  • Experience with UI design tools (e.g., Adobe XD, Sketch, Figma).
  • Experience with front-end framework Bootstrap.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field is a plus.

INTERVIEW PROCESS
Our interview process focuses on evaluating fit for the most important dimensions of the role: product sense, ability to architect complex product frontends, and alignment with FinalForms' values.
  • Intro Call [15-30m]: Introductory call with either a member of our recruiting team or the hiring manager to get to know each other and see if the role could be a good mutual fit.
  • UI/UX and Tech Exercise: Take home exercise to refresh a frequently used FinalForms interface component.
  • Technical Interview [60m]: Review your UI/UX Exercise solution. Work with CPO to design, architect, and implement a complex frontend component. Chat with CPO about past experiences and future operating preferences to assess fit on company values and culture.
  • CPO Final Interview [30m]: Final mutual Q&A and fit assessment.

If you thrive in a remote but collaborative environment, where you can leverage your expertise in building great user experiences, we would love to hear from you. While this is a senior role, we prioritize impact and potential for growth over years of experience. Apply now and join our distinguished team!
