The Senior Financial Aid Accountant will specialize in the return of Title IV funds to assess learner's enrollment changes, determine federal Financial Aid eligibility, modify federal aid as needed, and counsel learners on the return of Title IV funds resulting from enrollment changes. The Senior Financial Aid Accountant will follow federal, state, and institutional policies governing Financial Aid, and will be responsible for mentoring current and new staff.
Must be able to meet and maintain access requirements for secure federal and/or state websites, such as the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS). Individuals cannot currently be in default on a student loan.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Analyze complex changes in enrollment to determine if a return to Title IV funds (R2T4) calculation is required.
- Use strategic and professional judgment to perform accurate return to title IV funds (R2T4) calculations, federal aid adjustments, and post-withdrawal awarding for disbursement within the federally mandated timeframes.
- Accurately review query data within PeopleSoft to identify learners requiring a return to title IV funds (R2T4) re-review and or reinstatement of federal aid due to changes in enrollment. Research and analyze each learner's case and perform the necessary actions.
- Mentor current and new Financial Aid Accountants on how to best assess and complete the duties required of the Return of Title IV Funds (R2T4) team.
- Process reports, evaluate data from multiple sources, adjust award amounts as needed, maintain data, and generate communications to learners.
- Counsel learners on the impact of changes in enrollment, Financial Aid eligibility, and balances due to the university resulting from a return of Title IV Financial Aid.
- Identify areas of enhancement for the return to title IV funds (R2T4) process and assist in updating and/or developing R2T4 business process guides.
- Maintain current knowledge of Federal Title IV regulations, state rules, and institutional policies.
- Other job-related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- BA/BS degree required and either four years of professional experience in higher education, banking, accounting, business, or customer with a minimum of one and a half (1.5) of those years in a higher education Financial Aid setting environment or demonstrated proficiency with mentoring/training staff and functional PeopleSoft experience.
- Working knowledge of Title IV regulations and programs.
- Ability to work with detailed information from a variety of sources.
- Excellent level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience with computerized office systems including but not limited to Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple administrative tasks with minimal oversight.
- Demonstrated experience providing customer service in a timely and proficient manner.
- Must be able to meet and maintain access requirements for secure federal and/or state websites, such as the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS).
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Professional experience working with non-traditional learners in a culturally diverse environment.
- In-depth knowledge of return of Title IV funds federal regulations.
- Functional experience with PeopleSoft and Sales Force.
- Proficient understanding of NSLDS and COD systems.
