What we are looking for: KU Endowment is seeking a full-time Senior Financial Accountant, Financial Reporting, who will report directly to the Assistant Controller and will be a key business partner with the AVP/Controller and the SVP/COO. This position will take a lead role in the application of accounting principles and compliance with state and federal tax laws, while using our policies in the processing, recording, and reporting of accounting transactions for all KU Endowment locations and entities. The individual in this position is expected to embrace KU Endowment's stated core values - passion for KU, partnership with donors, perpetual support for KU, and a people-centered approach - and demonstrate support for them through professional interactions and activities.

What's a typical day look like? Works closely with outside independent auditors preparing the schedules needed in coordination of the annual audit. Assists with the preparation and interpretation of monthly, quarterly, and annual Financial Reporting, as needed.

Prepares and tracks key performance metrics for KU Endowment's leadership team. Maintains financial records for related KU Endowment entities, including wholly owned LLCs. Maintains the investments' journal ledgers.

Analyze investment statements to make appropriate accounting entries and investigate reconciling issues for the Investment Department. Assists with performing monthly procedures to update market values and record distributions for funds invested in KU Endowment's long-term investment pool. Assists with opening new fund accounts in the Financial Reporting system.

Performs reconciliations and assists with periodically reviewing certain fund accounts. Prepares, posts and reviews journal entries as required. Prepares special statements and reports for external users as required.

Works on special projects and performs other work as directed or required. Regular and reliable attendance is essential for this position. Performs other duties as may be assigned.

What's required to be considered: Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent. Experience in public accounting and CPA certificate preferred. Three to five years' experience in accounting, including working with general ledgers and financial statements.

What separates the best from the rest? Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles required, with exposure to fund accounting desirable. The candidate should possess the ability to establish and maintain professional effective working relationships with KU Endowment staff as well as University staff.

The candidate should also demonstrate the ability to make decisions concerning general accounting situations and seek administrative approval where necessary. Experience with spreadsheets, macros and considerable technical accounting skills required.
