Objective
To prepare estimates for bid responses and cost plan budgets for building projects, primarily in theme parks, attractions, resorts, and other specialty fabrication projects.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assessing all documentation provided for submission of bids, including potential risks/opportunities.
- Assessing what information is to be provided to subcontractors and suppliers for estimates.
- Preparing estimates, including scaling of building/quantities, labor, schedule of items, calculation of quantities, pricing, and preliminaries (eg, staffing).
- Resolving construction problems using innovative methods through liaising with manufacturing and construction personnel.
- Analyzing quotes from subcontractors and suppliers.
- Participating in management meetings to review bids prior to submission.
- Rating Bills of Quantities and balancing bills to sub-contractors’ figures used in the bid.
- Cost planning to cost projects yet to be designed or in the process of design.
- Negotiating sub-contracts by revisiting comparisons and contractors after project award, when requested.
- Assisting with post-bid change orders and variations.
- Preparation and maintenance of cost records and database(s).
- Ensure that bids are prepared, completed, and delivered on time and to the correct location.
- Perform risk analysis.
- Use software for data analysis, forecasting and budgeting.
- Other duties as would be expected in an Estimating Department.

Qualifications/Experience/ Skills and Attributes
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction or equivalent experience
- Familiarity with financial and project management principles.
- Building or Quantity Surveying experience a plus.
- General knowledge of the building industry.
- Previous experience in preparing hard money bids and cost plans.
- Proficiency with computer-generated spreadsheets and estimating applications.
- Ability to effectively communicate and negotiate with subcontractors.
- Excellent skills in communicating with people at all levels, with emphasis on verbal.
- Well organized, with the ability to prioritize workload accordingly.
- Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Extremely flexible to cope with varied workload.
- Hands-on team player - support and back up other staff members and perform a range of duties from routine to high level.
Senior Estimator Qualifiers:
- Level I: Minimum of 5 years of proven experience as estimator or similar position
- Level II: 5+ years of proven experience as estimator and work experience in the themed entertainment sector.
Preferred Industry Background:
- Fabrication and construction for the themed entertainment industry
- Fabrication of scenery, show set, rockwork, thematic painting.
- Millwork and interior fit out.
Work Schedule / Conditions
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an in-office setting.
- Hours: 8am – 5pm (MON-FRI)
- This position allows Hybrid Remote schedule and will require flexibility based on Business needs.
- A company laptop will be issued and is to be used for business purposes only.
- Expectations and proper measures to ensure the protection of company data, proprietary information, and assets (i.e. lock laptop screen when away from workspace).
- Travel may occur at impromptu times for specific projects, research and development, business development and training/conferences.
- This travel may include interstate and/or international travel at times and will require overnight/s stays.
- Advance planning and scheduling of travel is always best practice, but there may be situations, due to Client needs or other, that notice to travel is short term.
