Job Description

You became an Environmental Planner because you love applying your analytical skills and technical expertise to tailor a permitting approach to complex projects. You’re looking for a firm with a purpose that engages you, and a culture that energizes you. We’re Floyd|Snider (http://www.floydsnider.com/) and we’ve been looking for you.   We’re an employee-owned environmental consulting firm offering strategy, science, and engineering solutions in the private and public sectors. Independently owned and operated since 1996, Floyd|Snider has consistently been recognized as one of the premier firms in the Northwest and a top place to work. We love it here because we don’t do cookie-cutter work; we work collaboratively on complex, fascinating projects.   Now we’re looking to add a Senior Environmental Planner to our collaborative team that is managing a range of complex permitting projects and environmental reviews throughout the Pacific Northwest. We’re looking for someone who exemplifies our commitment to technical excellence, environmental responsibility, and customer service.   That’s where you come in.  As our new Senior Environmental Planner, your priority will be to manage projects and project teams to develop comprehensive permit applications to obtain environmental permits and approvals for a wide range of public and private projects.   You’ll be a key member of the team to make these projects happen, collaborating with engineers and technical experts to develop strategic project documents. You will also work with the regulatory agencies, beginning early in project design to confirm the regulatory process, potential environmental impacts, and unique requirements for the project. You’ll communicate directly with clients to ensure success in all phases of the work. You can count on growing here, as the scope of your portfolio and external contact will be much broader than you might find at a larger firm. You will have the opportunity to mentor other Environmental Planners on the team, while also interacting regularly with principals who will invest in you and your growth.   Beyond your relevant knowledge and expertise, we’re looking for someone who has the following attributes:   * Organizational skills – you see the big picture and the details. You’re able to juggle competing priorities without dropping the ball.   * Verbal and written communication skills – you’ll be interacting with clients, agency representatives, and consultants across multiple projects. You can adjust your style to suit any audience. You can also turn technical information into reader-friendly content without losing the meaning.   * Critical thinking skills – you ask probing questions and synthesize complex information to understand the project and its context, and then develop that into a strategic permitting approach.   * Detail-oriented – the information you’ll handle can be dense, the regulations are complex, and the projects are all different. You take care to review the details, because you know that details make a successful application.  The Details  This is a full-time, permanent position with an excellent compensation package, which includes a competitive salary, commensurate with experience. Planners with 10+ years of experience earn a salary range of $105k – $120k annually and have the position title of Environmental Planner III. We offer quarterly merit-based bonus opportunities, equity and ownership options, 401K, medical insurance, vision insurance, dental insurance, long-term disability insurance, and life insurance. We also offer 11 paid holidays and 20 days of paid time off per year.  Floyd|Snider provides employees with a flexible work schedule that includes core hours 9am to 4pm Monday to Friday. Most staff are expected to work onsite 2 – 3 days per week, depending on their distance from our office.  Project and field work may require you to work in excess of your standard billable work week, but Floyd|Snider provides extra time off in the form of comp time to recognize this effort. Regional travel is a small part of this role. You won’t typically go more than 3 hours away, and we’ll cover all your expenses.   Your professional growth is a priority to us. You’ll have our support to further your career with ongoing educational opportunities, and to participate in conferences.  Working with Us  We’re a socially responsible business that considers all our stakeholders – environment, planet, community, and supply chain. We’re serious about doing business better. These values led us to become a B Corporation (https://www.bcorporation.net/) . That’s why we are always finding ways to give back: and so will you with one week of paid volunteer time each year.   We’ve got a spectacular group. If you enjoy teaming up with some very smart people in a variety of fields solving real, complex, and important problems, then this is the place for you.  Qualifications  Here’s our list of must-haves:   * Degree in environmental science, planning, policy, or a related field  * 10+ years of environmental planning experience, ideally in the Pacific Northwest  * Ability to lead document production or a range of environmental permitting projects  * Demonstrated experience with federal, state, and local permitting, including strong familiarity with the following:  * SEPA and NEPA documentation   * Joint Aquatic Resources Permit Applications, specific experience with Clean Water Act Section 404/401  * Shoreline Master Program consistency analyses  * Comprehensive land use permit applications  * Endangered Species Act and Section 106 documents  Anything on this list would be an asset, but is not required:   * Detail-oriented without losing the big picture   * Strong writing skills and experience as a lead author or as a technical resource    * Strategically minded to solve complex problems    * Highly skilled at multi-tasking   * Adjusts communication style to suit any audience    * Turns technical information into reader-friendly content without losing the meaning  How to Apply   Our online application will give you the option to apply to this role as a complete person – not just a resume. The application will assess your qualifications, personality traits and workplace preferences, and should take 10 to 15 minutes to complete. After submitting, you'll receive an email inviting you to log in and view your assessment results. We strive to build a team that reflects the diversity of the community we work in and encourage applications from traditionally underrepresented groups such as women, visible minorities, indigenous peoples, people identifying as LGBTQ2SI, veterans, and people with disabilities.
