Job description

BioWare creates games focused on rich stories, unforgettable characters and vast worlds. It operates primarily out of Edmonton (Alberta, CAN) and Austin (Texas, USA) creating some of the world's most critically acclaimed titles since 1995. The studio is currently working on future game experiences for the Mass Effect franchise, one of the highest rated video game series of all time, and the Dragon Age franchise, whose latest entry won 150+ Game of the Year awards.

The Senior Environment Artist will report to the Environment Art Director

Responsibilities:

You will:

  • Deconstruct concept art, reference imagery, and style guides into efficient asset lists, taking into account opportunities for reuse and modular construction.

  • Work with other disciplines to understand and interpret the game's requirements within the technical parameters of the platforms.

  • Create high-quality benchmark content, from individual assets to entire levels

  • Iterate level layouts throughout all phases of production

  • Set dress locations, conveying depth and storytelling in the way assets are composed

  • Explore, recommend, and implement new techniques, tools, and workflows, that improve quality and efficiency.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of production experience with asset-level creation.

  • You have advanced knowledge of Maya, ZBrush, Substance Designer, and Photoshop.

  • Experience with photogrammetry, ZBrush, and Substance Designer is a plus.

  • High-fidelity modelling skills, along with the ability to paint photorealistic surfaces using industry-standard physically-based 3D paint software

  • Strong asset creation abilities (hard surface, architecture and/or organic assets)

  • Experience in breaking down complex scenes into efficient asset sets and components.

  • Experienced working methodically, from initial grey-block through to final assets, iterating with low-fidelity content to determine the optimal approach, before building final assets.

  • A strong sense of proportion, scene composition, and lighting.

  • Experience working with content-driven game engines (e.g. Unreal, Frostbite, Unity).

  • Experience collaborating with designers, engineers, and tech artists to evolve workflows, and pipelines, and to problem-solve.

  • Knowledge of the latest industry-standard tools, workflows, and techniques including physically based rendering.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The base salary ranges listed below are for the defined geographic market pay zones in these locations. If you reside outside of these locations, a recruiter will advise on the range and benefits for your specific location.

Pay offered will be determined based on numerous relevant business and candidate factors including, for example, education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and business or organizational needs.
BASE SALARY RANGES
California (depending on location e.g. Los Angeles vs. Sacramento):
$113,300 - $171,700 USD Annually
New York (depending on location e.g. Manhattan vs. Buffalo):
$111,500 - $171,700 USD Annually
Jersey City, NJ :
$126,700 - $171,700 USD Annually
Colorado (depending on location e.g. Denver vs. Colorado Springs):
$111,500 - $144,000 USD Annually
Washington (depending on location e.g. Seattle vs. Spokane):
$111,500 - $157,300 USD Annually
British Columbia (depending on location e.g. Vancouver vs. Victoria):
$93,700 - $143,700 CAN Annually
Base salary is just one part of the overall compensation at EA. In the US, we offer a package of benefits including paid time off (3 weeks per year to start), 80 hours per year of sick time, 16 paid company holidays per year, medical/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, and 401(k) to temporary full-time employees scheduled to work full time. In British Columbia, we offer a package of benefits including vacation (3 weeks per year to start), 10 days per year of sick time, and after 3 months of service - extended health/dental/vision coverage and basic life insurance.
