The applicant will be responsible for the design and development of electronic control units and associated printed wiring board assemblies within electric systems for military and commercial aircraft. The applicant will apply principles and techniques of electrical/electronic engineering to ensure design preparation is in accordance with applicable specifications, customer requirements, and standard work practices; interfaces with various functional groups to coordinate conceptual, preliminary, and detailed unit design, engineering documentation releases, development testing, qualification testing, and entry into service.

Onsite:

• Must be a commutable distance from Rockford, IL to work onsite. This position is eligible for relocation.

Primary Responsibilities:

• General use of the Standard Work tool as needed to enter appropriate data.
• Work with the program office, department leadership, project engineering, peer designers, other engineering disciplines, and customers as needed to develop control units and resolve issues.
• Preliminary Design Activities.
• Unit and Module Requirements Creation using Doors.
• Requirements management (Validation of requirements and Change Management).
• Detailed Design Activities.
• Schematic design using Concept HDL.
• Design Reviews per department standards.
• Design Analysis per department standards and customer specifications.
• Supporting the creation of Test Requirement Specifications (TRS) and the development of production test solutions.
• Verification Activities.
• Determine and prepare procedures for testing products (Development and Qualification Testing).
• Development and qualification testing at a unit level and at a system level.
• Use of lab equipment.
• Support testing at non-UTAS locations as needed. 
• Documents results of design studies, trade studies, and failure analyses.
• Provide technical assistance to manufacturing as required.

Qualifications / Experience Needed:

• 5+ years of demonstrated engineering excellence with leadership experience in product development is required.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field is required.  
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience.

• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work in a team environment, mentor junior engineers, and communicate effectively with technical authority through all levels of the organization.
• Demonstrated creative problem-solving experience and a robust work ethic.
• Demonstrated ability to prepare and execute a program plan.
