Job description

Sierra Lobo, offers customers a full range of professional and technical capabilities, including Test and Evaluation, Systems Engineering, and Advanced Technologies.  We also develop products and processes related to Cryogenic Fluid and Thermal Management Systems, Densified Propellant Management Systems, and Prototype Extreme Pressure and Temperature Systems.  Our customers include the Department of Defense (DoD), the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Army, Missile Defense Agency (MDA), and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

 

This position will be located at NASA’s Langley Research Center.

The Electrical Maintenance and Reliability Engineer is expected have a working knowledge of electrical systems maintenance practices and poses problem solving and troubleshooting skills. Some of the key responsibilities of the Maintenance and Reliability Engineer are:

  • Developing procedures for major overhauls and technically complex repairs of critical electrical equipment
  • Troubleshoot equipment and system problems including high voltage distribution systems, electrical control systems, drive systems and building power systems.
  • Analysis of system/equipment performance as compared to design criteria.
  • Conduct root cause failure analysis, develop action plan to eliminate repeat failures, and implement corrective actions
  • Establishing and driving Reliability Engineering principles and best work practices
  • Development and oversight of preventive and predictive maintenance procedures
  • Identify key areas for reliability improvements
  • Provide technical input to the Engineering Design Department on the selection and installation of equipment and systems based on reliability improvements and industry best practices
  • Apply engineering standards in evaluating facility, system and equipment conditions. Coach and develop personnel in changing from reactive to proactive maintenance.
  • Independently plans, schedules, and conducts or coordinates detailed phases of engineering work through the selection and adaptation or modification of techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Analyzes complex features of the work and applies principles and practices of the discipline, or devises new approaches in problem solutions.
  • Thoroughly reviews all results from assigned tasks and determine if outputs are complete, correct, integrated with project objectives, and adequately documented
  •  May direct other engineers, engineering associates, technicians, designers, draftsmen, clerical personnel, etc., assigned to project team or tasks.

BS degree in appropriate discipline and eight (8) to twelve (12) years related engineering experience, or a MS degree and seven (7) to ten (10) years of related engineering experience or Ph.D. and two (2) to five (5) years of related engineering experience.
 
Essential Functions

Work Environment

Office environment (90%)
Test Environment- May be exposed to areas of high noise levels, hazardous propellants, explosives, chemicals, steam, high pressure lines, and industrial facilities.
Travel between facilities and test sites is required. (10%)

 

Physical Requirements
Must have sufficient mobility to enter all areas of test facilities. Must be able to walk, stand, bend, twist and sit for extended periods as well as climb, crawl in confined spaces, and lift up to 35lbs (20%).

Equipment and Machines
Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, fax, copier, etc.) (50%)

Experience with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook. (30%)
Safety and Personal Protective Equipment (20%)

Attendance

Regular attendance mandatory (100%)
Overtime/work outside normal schedule required (20%)

Other Essential Functions

U.S. Citizenship required. A valid driver’s license is required. Must be able to work in a team atmosphere. Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety/risk hazard to the employee or others. The work environment requires the ability to cooperate and work with individuals at all levels of the company and the client. Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance as required. Your SPA is a Company provided tool to be used for the prevention of incidents, accidents, and injuries; as such, it is the most important tool that you are required to use.
