Provides technical assistance in the administration of policies, standards, and regulations relating to environmental health and safety.

The EHS team of safety, health, and environmental professionals work to protect the health & safety of faculty, staff, students, patients, and visitors at UTMB as well as ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Essential Job Duties:
Maintains fire systems inspection programs within regulatory timelines, especially fire extinguisher and fire door programs.
Updates inspection information and produces compliance reports electronically utilizing Maximo and/or Excel software.
Develops schedules to meet compliance time frames.
Supports customers regarding environmental, health, & safety related compliance.
Researches, implements technical requirements for tracking and monitoring equipment.
Applies knowledge of environmental and safety, policies and procedures to support customers.
Provides quality technical support in all areas to diversified customers.
Monitors facilities for hazard levels to ensure worker and public safety.
Assists in calibration or inspection of safety equipment.
Assists in the development and delivery of safety training programs.
Develops and implements new/improved work processes.
Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:
Knowledge in environmental health & safety regulations
Ability to inspect, test, monitor, or measure safe environmental levels.
Working Environment:
Standard hospital, clinical, laboratory and/or office environments; will require significant field work and some office work.
Potential exposure to hazardous conditions and/or materials. May involve strenuous activity such as walking, lifting, and moving of material. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as respiratory protection, chemical resistant clothing, etc.
Standard office equipment and equipment used to ensure safe environmental levels.
Position may be subject to DOT regulations which include drug and alcohol testing. Testing includes pre-employment, random and for cause.
May be required to pass the "Basic Radiation Safety in the Laboratory" course within the first 6 months of employment.
May be required to achieve or maintain Hazardous Waste Operations certification according to 40 CFR 1910 requirements within first 6 months of hire.
Ability to use UTMB vehicles.
Licenses, Registrations or Certifications
May be required to maintain a Texas Commercials Driver's License with Hazardous Materials endorsement within first 6 months of hire.
Must pass Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) Fire Extinguisher License exam within 6 months of hire.
Salary Range:
Actual salary commensurate with experience.
radioactive material based upon Trustworthiness and Reliability determination (25 TAC 289.252/10 CFR Part 37).
