This is your opportunity to join a busy Security Engineering team delivering cutting-edge solutions to a fantastic Government client.  A solid foundation with Linux/UNIX operating systems, DNS, and scripting experience is key for this challenging and rewarding role.  You will join a network security team responsible for developing automation for various security and infrastructure solutions in the cloud and on-premise data centers.  We seek a motivated Cybersecurity professional passionate about Linux, scripting, automation, and DNS. The successful candidate will handle project and operational activities for 100+ Linux servers of varying distributions, both on-premise and in the cloud. 

 

The successful candidate will have proven experience in automating manual IT infrastructure and security processes and a proven track record of learning new technologies. To be successful in this role, you'll be passionate about what you do and will be able to work autonomously to engineer your way out of problems.

 

This position allows for 100% remote work and will participate a rotating on-call schedule. Remote work necessitates a high-level trust in our employees and we strictly adhere to the details found below in our Remote Work Policy. 

 

Must-Have Experience: 

  • 5+ years relevant technical experience
  • B.S. in Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, Engineering, related degree or an additional 3 years of relevant experience.
  • 3+ years of solid DNS  experience:  Extensive experience with  DNS infrastructure and server software like BIND or Microsoft DNS. Understanding of how authoritative, recursive DNS are configured, configuration of zones,  DNSSEC, caching, and split horizon. Experience with DOH (DNS-Over-Https) and DOT (DNS-over-TLS) . Experience with DNS stress testing, troubleshooting of DNS issues.
  • 6+ years of development experience.  This experience must include full-time development on Linux/UNIX platforms and will involving the use of bash scripting, Python, or Ruby.
  • 3+ years of Ansible and Terraform experience.  The successful candidate will have proven experience developing Ansible Playbooks and Roles and will have written Terraform code to implement configuration within the AWS cloud service provider layer and within operating systems.
  • 3+ years of AWS experience.  The successful candidate will have experience working with Amazon Web Services either deploying or accessing AWS services and applications that run in AWS. This experience must have included significant AWS API automation.
  • 2+ years IPV6  experience.   In-depth  knowledge of IPv6 configuration on windows and linux servers , troubleshooting

 

Strongly Preferred Experience:

  • Security Engineering:  Broad mix of security expertise in areas such as SIEM integration implementation of technology mechanisms to protect information systems' Confidentiality, Availability, and Integrity.
  • Strong experience with systems administration:  The successful candidate must have experience with Windows and Linux/UNIX server operating systems.  You will understand permissions in both OS types and be familiar with authentication mechanisms. 
  • Networking engineering experience (Routing & Switching): The successful candidate will be experienced with static routing, EIGRP, and OSPF routing protocols and must be experienced with TCP/IP and IP subnetting.  The successful candidate will be experienced working in a mid to large environment and will be able to work with minimal direction.
  • Experience with source code management:  The successful candidate will be very knowledgeable with Git, GitHub, and with repository management tools such as Artifactory.
  • 2+ years of Elastic Stack experience.  The successful candidate will have proven experience deploying and managing Elastic Stack/ELK clusters. This includes experience configuring Elasticsearch, Logstash, and Kibana.

 

Some Responsibilities Include:

  • System Administration: Perform day-to-day administration tasks for our Linux-based servers, including configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Security Patching: Regularly assess and apply security patches and updates to ensure the highest level of system security.
  • Template Builds: Develop and maintain standardized system templates to expedite provisioning and ensure consistent configurations.
  • Automation: Leverage your scripting prowess to design and implement automation solutions for routine tasks, enhancing efficiency and reducing manual efforts.
  • Performance Optimization: Identify opportunities for system performance improvement, implement tuning strategies, and monitor resource utilization.
  • Incident Response: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address and resolve system incidents, minimizing downtime and ensuring rapid recovery. Participate in the on-call rotation schedule to address and resolve critical system issues during off-hours.
  • Proactive Monitoring: Utilize monitoring tools to track system health, identify anomalies, and preemptively address potential issues.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with networking, development, and security teams to ensure seamless integration of systems and applications.
  • Lifecycle Management: Take charge of end-to-end lifecycle management for our Linux systems, including provisioning, configuration, OS upgrades, and decommissioning.
  • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive and up-to-date documentation for configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guidelines.
  • Innovation: Stay abreast of industry trends, evaluate new technologies, and propose innovative solutions to improve system architecture and processes.
