Microsoft DSR is responsible for company-wide information security and compliance, with a strategic focus on information protection, assessment, awareness, governance, and enterprise business continuity. The Microsoft Security organization accelerates Microsoft’s mission and bold ambitions to ensure that our company and industry is securing digital technology platforms, devices, and clouds in our customers’ heterogeneous environments, as well as ensuring the security of our own internal estate.

We are looking for a Senior Director of Security Operations to manage Security and Business Operations across our group. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, running and oversight of various enterprise wide Security Operations processes across Microsoft. This role will directly report to our Corporate Vice President/Chief Security Information Officer (CISO) Operations.

In leading CISO Operations, you will be thinking holistically and proactively to improve the effectiveness of the overall organization, its processes and its people. This role requires a highly resourceful person who is smart, strategic, and self-motivated. The successful candidate for this position possesses an ability to lead through influence, has analytical skills, demonstrates the discipline to deliver results, and exhibits emotional intelligence.

Responsibilities


Security Operations


Own responsibility for the design, running and oversight of various enterprise wide Security Operations processes across Microsoft. Examples to include:

  • Work with internal 3rd party application risk management, 1st party security product teams, and external vendor and partner executives globally to design and oversee a security ecosystem for 3rd party apps across Microsoft and the larger industry.

  • Partner with internal security governance teams to design and operate a system of centralized and federated security governance across the entire Microsoft enterprise.


Business Operations


Own responsibility for the design, running and oversight of various internal DSR business operations. Examples to include:

  • Oversee multi-year budgeting and planning process for a ~$1B budget

  • Oversee people operations processes (hiring, transfers, DEI, promotions, training, offboarding, etc.) across a 5,000+ person global organization

  • Oversee procurement processes across all of Microsoft Digital Security

  • Oversee the process of monitoring and optimizing internal cloud spend of ~$100M

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field (e.g., Liberal Arts, Business Administration, Management, Computer Science) AND 8+ years experience in financial management, business planning, operations management, strategy, project management, human resources, or business-related roles
o OR equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years managing large scale business operations with a focus on risk management for a global distributed organization

Other Requirements

The ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience managing business operations for a globally distributed team of at least 1,000 people
  • Experience operating at an executive level of external 3rd party vendors and partners
  • 5+ years experience managing a budget of > $500m
  • 5+ years of experience managing 3rd party risk at an enterprise level
  • 5+ years experience in procurement / negotiations with 3rd party vendors and service providers
  • 5+ years experience managing a cloud spend of at least $100M

Business Management M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $124,800 - $266,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $159,000 - $292,200 per year.
