The Senior Director of Medical Affairs will be a key member of, and leader within, our growing Medical Affairs team. Reporting to the Executive Director of Scientific Communications, this highly visible role will help drive Medical/Field Medical strategy for all of Alpine's pipeline products and be the leader and face of Field Medical within the organization. Key responsibilities will include development and implementation of strategic and impactful approaches for building and maintaining strong relationships with medical experts and communities in the relevant therapeutic areas via KOL engagement and insights gathering, clinical trial and enrollment support, field medical education and content development, and congress planning and coverage. This will entail close collaborations with cross-functional teams, including but not limited to scientific communications, clinical development, clinical operations, commercial, translational medicine, PR/IR, safety, and program management.

Duties and responsibilities
Contribute to the development of the overall Medical Affairs strategy and lead the development and execution of Field Medical strategy across all relevant therapeutic areas.
Provide leadership and management of the Field Medical team to ensure success/impact as Alpine's ambassadors to the medical community and in building external relationships for Alpine overall and in relation to its products in development. Specific responsibilities include:
o Hiring, training, coaching, and development/growth of MSLs, including ensuring MSLs are up to date on the latest data/strategy and therapeutic landscape developments.
o Building the structure, operations (including SOPs, metrics, and resource/budget planning), and reputation of the Field Medical function within the organization.
o Ensuring close collaborations/partnerships between Field Medical and other functions.
Drive Field Medical excellence, execution, and impact via:
o KOL identification, mapping, and engagement strategy and execution to establish, strengthen, and broaden Alpine's relationships with KOLs and the medical community.
o Scientific exchange/education with KOLs and other HCPs via MSL-led events/presentations, in alignment with the overall medical education strategy/plan.
o Support of clinical trials and patient enrollment, in collaboration with Clinical Development/Operations.
o Gathering, sharing, and actioning of medical insights.
Lead the strategy and implementation of Field Medical education/content and internal training, including:
o Developing and maintaining scientific expertise related to Alpine products (including MOA and preclinical/clinical data), disease area backgrounds, and therapeutic landscape updates.
o Driving the planning, development, and review of resources/content for Field Medical use covering the topics referenced above.
o Driving the planning, development, and review of internal training curricula covering the topics referenced above.
Contribute to congress planning and coverage, in collaboration with the cross-functional congress planning team.

Qualifications
Advanced degree in life sciences or pharmaceutical sciences (PhD, PharmD) with 10+ years of experience in the pharma/biotech industry and 8+ years of experience in Field Medical Affairs
A minimum of 5 years of experience managing/leading a Field Medical team, with a track record of success in building/developing a Field Medical function highly preferred
Demonstrated ability to successfully engage and build relationships with external stakeholders, including KOLs and other HCPs, medical societies, PAGs, and payers
Demonstrated learning agility and ability to analyze, interpret, and critique scientific and medical data
Excellent communication skills, including demonstrated ability to articulately communicate/present complex scientific and medical data and to flex communication approach/style based on the audience
Excellent interpersonal skills, including demonstrated ability to work effectively in a complex and matrix environment and to collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders in a professional, credible, and responsive manner
Impeccable organizational and time-management skills, including demonstrated ability to manage multiple and competing priorities and to achieve objectives in a fast-paced environment
Experience in autoimmune diseases (e.g., autoimmune glomerulonephritis, autoimmune cytopenia, SLE) and immunology is highly preferred
Domestic and international travel (30-50%) is required

This position is a Senior Director level position with a compensation range of $220,000 to $275,000.  In order to be considered for a position, candidates must be located in one of the following five states: CA, MA, NC, OR, or WA .
