Job description

About Dēmos. Demos is a movement-oriented think tank committed to racial and economic justice. Through research, advocacy, strategic communications, litigation, and deep partnerships with grassroots organizations across the country, we build power with and for Black and brown communities. Since 2000, Demos has built relationships with grassroots partners, legal and policy experts, and policymakers to champion, advance, and realize pro-democracy and economic justice laws and policies. Demos is valued and trusted for its deep relationships with movement leaders and its ability to prioritize what the movement needs. Demos' policy, litigation, and advocacy work has moved to the center of the national conversation and even become law. From getting money out of politics to expanding voting rights, our policy recommendations and advocacy have become reality. We don't just develop policy papers with big ideas-we put them into action. Individually and as coalition partners, we've beat back anti-voter laws in multiple states, expanded access to the ballot for formerly incarcerated Americans, and protected rights guaranteed by the National Voter Registration Act. We've crafted narrative and policy to advance a more just, inclusive economy where Black and brown people thrive. We've fought for and won greater consumer protections within our credit system, improved working conditions for the federal contractor workforce, and we laid the groundwork for debt-free college and student debt cancellation.
Senior Digital Content Manager. Reporting to the Associate Director of Digital Engagement, the Senior Digital Content Manager is a full-time position responsible for managing the voice of Demos across our digital platforms with a primary focus on email -directly engaging with our digital audiences and raising awareness for our work of building power with and for Black and brown people. The ideal candidate is a gifted digital storyteller with experience in leveraging digital tools to drive social change and is a data-driven professional who thrives in a collaborative, values-driven environment. The most competitive candidates will bring an entrepreneurial orientation, humility, and an ability to work collaboratively both internally and externally.
Principal responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Manage all aspects of writing, planning, developing, testing, and sending emails and campaigns.
  • Collaborate with Demos Advancement Team in designing and executing donor email engagement strategies.
  • Develop and execute ad campaigns across digital platforms.
  • Responsible for day-to-day management of the Demos site, including publishing and highlighting new content, optimizing existing content for SEO, and consistently curating our archives in the service of finding new ways to leverage past work.
  • Support the Associate Director of Digital Engagement with benchmark setting and analysis and contributing to regular reporting out to staff on our growth, engagement, and effectiveness.
  • Contribute to the team's editorial calendar by identifying engaging opportunities that help to establish a memorable brand voice.
  • Support social media development and execution including drafting, circulating for review, and posting copy for Demos' social accounts. Also, help curate accompanying assets-images, videos, and designing graphics.
  • Provide support, training, and guidance to colleagues, partners, and vendors around digital skills and best practices, encouraging their digital engagement internally and externally.

The successful candidate must clearly demonstrate the following experience and skills: Content Curation: You have proven professional experience with a variety of digital platforms and comfort learning new digital platforms-we currently use Mailchimp for email and Sprout Social for social media management. Dēmos is on Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, Threads, Facebook, and LinkedIn. Experience with, or willingness to learn, organizational software platforms is a plus, including Outlook 365, Salesforce, Sharepoint, Slack, and Trello.
Working for Racial Equity. You consistently integrate your deep understanding of key racial equity concepts into work projects and interactions by addressing structural implications and disproportionate impacts of policies, activities, and decisions on race, class and other group identities within the context of job responsibilities and projects.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills: You have an analytical mind with strong attention to detail. You are experienced in writing, editing, speaking, and general communications skills. You have a demonstrated ability to communicate clearly across departments with competing demands and display collaboration and humility in your work.
Intellectual Curiosity: You are naturally interested in the work of the organization and are eager to get 'into the weeds' with program staff. You have a demonstrated practice of continually educating yourself and staying up to date on organizational programs and priorities and you recognize opportunities to interject analysis, commentary, and potential narrative shifts.
Low Ego. You are committed to advancing the whole rather than yourself.
The strongest candidates will also demonstrate some of the following experience and skills:
  • Experience conceptualizing and managing large, multi-channel digital campaigns and projects through completion
  • Experience with basic HTML/CSS, A/B testing, and design software (Adobe Creative Suite or Canva)
  • Excellent technical production skills and deep understanding of email deliverability
  • Familiarity with social media support for organizational leaders and principals
  • Familiarity with producing live social media content and webinars
  • Keeps current with emerging digital media behavior and trends
  • A sense of humor and optimistic outlook
  • Have a solutions orientation and will do what it takes to get the job done

Additionally, candidates must bring a strong commitment to excellence and an ability to work in an evolving environment.
Work Location: Demos is working to adopt a hybrid, remote-first work model with in-person meetings taking place in the current offices in New York City or Washington, D.C. Candidates based in any continental U.S. location with the ability to travel are encouraged to apply.
Salary and Benefits: The annual salary range for this position is $100,000 to $105,000. Salary is determined based on experience, job responsibilities and other factors determined by law. For purposes of internal equity, Demos will not negotiate salaries outside of this posted range. Demos has a generous benefits package, which includes health insurance, dental and vision insurance, 11 paid holidays, 18 vacation days per year, 5 floating holidays per year, 12 sick days per year, paid time off the last week of August, and Dec. 24 - through the first week of January, and a voluntary 403b plan.
How to Apply: Submit a concise, thoughtful cover letter and resume, that speaks to how your experience and skillset meet the qualifications for this role. We are looking for an immediate hire so applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until the position is filled. No phone calls or emails please.
Dēmos is an Equal Opportunity Employer--people of color, people with disabilities, women, and LGBTQ candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. We are committed to a diverse workplace, and to supporting our staff with ongoing career development opportunities.
