Senior Diesel Technician - **Signing Bonus**


GTG Peterbilt – Wichita, formerly Doonan Truck & Equipment is a premier provider of quality products and services to commercial equipment users. Grask Truck Group, Inc., an Iowa based Peterbilt truck dealer with locations in Cedar Rapids, Davenport, Waterloo and Quincy, Illinois has acquired Doonan Truck & Equipment effective January 3, 2023. With this acquisition, Grask Truck Group (GTG Peterbilt) adds stores in Wichita, Great Bend and Hays, Kansas nearly doubling their size of operation in the Midwest. Customers will notice an increased product line and improved customer resources and convenience with the addition of these three locations.

We are looking for an experienced Diesel Technician with at least 5 years of experience to work in our Wichita, KS location. This position will also serve as a mentor for newer technicians. If you are a person that likes to share knowledge with others to help grow our next generation of Diesel Technicians this position is for you. We are expanding our hours to better service our customers, this position will work 12:00 pm - 9:00 pm.



Requirements:

Duties and Responsibilities may include:

  • Determine unit condition by conducting inspections & diagnostic test, identifying deficiencies.
  • Test equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturers' specifications; make necessary adjustments if required.
  • Perform other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles.
  • Maintain cost efficiency by using warranty, evaluating service & parts options.
  • Maintain vehicle records with an accurate documentation of service and repairs.
  • Complete engine overhauls as well as other repairs identified during the diagnostic process.
  • Read schematics for electrical and air systems.
  • Use good judgment to maintain a safe & organized work environment.
  • Accept ownership for accomplishing new & different requests & exploring value added opportunities.
  • Apply knowledge and work in accordance with DOT, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and other rules and regulations as required.
  • Other general shop duties as assigned.

Skills:

  • Solid working knowledge of power tools required to perform all phases of truck/chassis repair and maintenance.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • At higher levels of experience demonstrate ability to perform all phases of heavy-duty diesel equipment and services.
  • Professional and safety minded at all times.
  • Excellent communication both verbal and written, listening skills.
  • Good customer service skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task in fast-paced environment.
  • Work with minimal supervision and direction.
  • Work well independently as well as part of a team.

Education:

  • Preferred minimum of High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Certifications from OEM's in the trucking industry a plus.
  • Preferred - 2 years of tech school and 3 years of experience in heavy duty truck repair or 3-5 years of actual truck or heavy equipment repair experience.
  • Combination of education, training, or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license and be insurable. CDL preferred.
  • Must be able to pass mandatory pre-employment drug screen and background check

Additional Information: Physical: Working in, under, and around trucks and trailers. Ability to lift, push or pull, objects of various shapes, sizes and weights. Safely walk, reach, bend, climb, push, twist, squat and kneel as necessary to perform the essential job duties. Safely walk and stand for extended periods of time. Uniforms, ear and eye protection provided.
