Why This Role is Exciting:
The Sr. Data Science Engineering Manager provides technical hands-on leadership to a skilled and motivated team of data scientist supporting Artificial Intelligence and Deep Machine Learning/Deep Learning (ML/DL) software development supporting exciting advancement supporting our Nations Space capabilities. Their team is embedded with and works closely with researchers and scientist, software developers, DevSecOps professionals and other teams both internal and external to develop solutions solving complex problems for our Space Surveillance Network (SSN).
Key Responsibilities:
  • Understanding customer needs and expectations for our Mission-Driven Autonomous Collaborative Heterogeneous Intelligent Network Architecture (MACHINA)
    • MACHINA is a software system designed to serve as a general-purpose framework for decentralized autonomous situational awareness. The MACHINA program will produce a software system that implements a framework enabling resilient, decentralized, host-agnostic deployment of a collection of interacting agents that collaboratively control a collection of heterogeneous sensors in pursuit of designer-specified situational awareness.
  • Implementing solutions to meet customer/program requirements based on the above understanding. This includes but is not limited to:
    • Translating requirements into actionable task
    • Collaborating with subject matter experts and other teams on solutions pathways
    • Identifying risks associated with various technical solutions
  • Collaborating with technology leaders across company, with customers and advisors to guide the design and creation of products and infrastructure while collaborating on critical technology decisions.
  • Communicating challenges internally and externally to establish realistic milestones and objectives for your team.
  • Mentoring and guiding your team throughout the process.

A Successful Candidate embodies the following (see details in minimum quals below):
  • Technical Leadership. Willingness to get hands-on keyboard, in the code with the team to provide ground-level direction and feedback. Hands-on experience engineering across various deployment platforms is preferred.
  • ML Framework Experience. TensorFlow, Keras and/or PyTorch
  • People Leadership. Interest or aptitude in mentoring and skills development
  • Critical Thinker. Understand the logical connection between multiple ideas or concepts and use this to perform problem-solving and decision making.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in relevant field and 7-10 years of experience in scientific fields including Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, and/or Mathematics with a deep learning background required.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience leading teams
  • Experience leading teams remotely
  • Must be a US citizen.
  • Solid oral presentation and writing skills.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
  • Knowledge of cyber vulnerabilities, exploits, and threats
  • Software architecture and development/programming experience
  • Experience with deep learning frameworks preferably including TensorFlow and Keras.

The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity.
Additional Compensation:
KBR may offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation to certain job titles or levels, per internal policy or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be in the form of sign on bonus, relocation benefits, short term incentives, long term incentives, or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
